Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Oncology (BMT/Oncology Unit)

Location: Aurora, Colorado
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Unit & Patient Population

  • 36-bed Blood and Marrow Transplant (BMT) Unit, expanding soon to 51 beds
  • Caring for patients with blood cancers receiving chemotherapy, biotherapies, and cellular therapies such as stem cell transplants and CAR-T therapy
  • Patient-to-nurse ratio: 3-4:1
  • Charting system: Epic
  • Scrub color: Navy

Schedule & Shift Details

  • Rotating shifts (straight nights or days requests are NOT allowed)
  • Various days of the week
  • Weekend shifts required as per unit needs
  • No on-call required
  • Floating within scope between like units may be required

Experience & Certification Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of acute care experience in BMT or hematology/oncology (highest required experience)
  • First-time travel nurses accepted if they meet experience requirements
  • Certifications required:
    • AHA Basic Life Support (BLS)
    • Colorado or Compact RN License
    • Oncology certification (ONC)

Time Off & Restrictions

  • Maximum 10 Return to Office (RTO) days approved
  • RTO NOT allowed during these blackout periods:
    • December 21, 2025 – January 3, 2026
    • March 14 – March 21, 2026
    • May 8 – May 11, 2026
    • May 21 – May 27, 2026
  • Flexibility may be considered for harder-to-fill positions

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • I9 or Attestation
  • Driver’s License/State ID (clear copies front/back)
  • E-Verify or Attestation
  • Proof of Name Change if applicable
  • 7-year Background Check including:
    • SSN Trace
    • Colorado Statewide CBI
    • Education Verification (accredited nursing school)
    • FACIS III, SO, OFAC Sanctions List
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 60 days of start
  • Education Verification (transcript/diploma acceptable)
  • Employment Application and Work History Verification covering last 3 years with explanations for gaps >30 days
  • 2 professional references from last 2 years (one within last year) from Charge RN, Manager, or Supervisor
  • Colorado CAPS Check Results within 60 days of start

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year, signed by MD, DO, NP, or PA
  • Fit mask test within 12 months (specific approved masks)
  • Immunizations and titers:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years or declination)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
    • Annual TB questionnaire if positive TB history
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) immunity or vaccines
    • Hepatitis B immunity or vaccine series or declination
    • Varicella immunity or vaccines
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or facility exemption during flu season
    • COVID vaccine documentation or declination (accepted vaccines: AstraZeneca, Pfizer, Moderna)
  • Drug testing within 30 days of start and annually
  • Color Blindness testing: Ishihara exam required prior to start (online testing not accepted)

Competency & Training Requirements

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (updated annually)
  • Competency exam with minimum 80% score (updated annually)
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (updated annually) for ICU and related units
  • Core Part I, II, III training (updated annually)
  • OSHA mandatory training (updated annually)

Additional Notes

  • Floating between similar units may be required to meet facility needs
  • Weekend shifts required per unit needs
  • No prior travel experience explicitly required for this position

This position is ideal for experienced acute care oncology nurses with BMT or hematology/oncology expertise seeking a travel contract in Colorado.
