Job Opportunity: Medical Surgical RN - Nampa, Idaho

Position Details

• Specialty: Medical Surgical (Med-Surg)
• Location: Nampa, Idaho
• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Shift: 12-hour shifts (7am-7pm)
• Schedule:

  • Modified self-scheduling after initial onboarding
  • Schedule typically made 6 weeks in advance
  • Weekend requirement: 6 twelve-hour shifts in a 6-week schedule (60 hours total)
  • May be asked to participate in holiday rotation
• Floating:

  • Required to float to other Med-Surg units and sister facilities
  • Goal of 2-hour notice prior to shift start for floating; may be asked mid-shift if necessary
  • Floating is rotational

Unit Information

• Unit: Medical Surgical, Floor 2
• Beds: 24
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:5 (days and nights)
• Nurse Aids: 3 CNAs with ratios 1:8-12; may be pulled for sitter needs
• Charge Nurse: Present on each shift; generally does not take patient assignments unless necessary
• Assistant Nurse Managers: Available for staff support
• Orientation: 1-3 days with a preceptor
• Dress Code: Any color scrubs allowed

Patient Population & Common Diagnoses

• General Medical Surgical patients
• COPD
• Withdrawals (CIWAs)
• Pancreatitis
• Direct admits from critical access hospitals
• Infections
• Surgical patients including total joint replacements (knees & hips), urology, OB/GYN, general surgeries (appendectomy, cholecystectomy, hernia repairs), and more

Required Experience & Certifications

• Experience: Minimum 1 year of Medical Surgical or Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience (highest requirement)
• Preferred: Orthopedic experience
• Travel Experience: First-time travelers accepted; prior travel experience NOT required
• Certifications: BLS required

Clinical Responsibilities & Skills

• No requirement to titrate drips, but common drips include Heparin and PCAs
• Nurses are tele-aware but not required to read their own telemetry strips
• Respiratory Therapy available for breathing treatments and respiratory equipment management
• RT equipment includes home CPAP, High Flow, BiPAP (can be initiated on unit then transferred off)
• Job duties include ADLs, vital signs, intake/output monitoring, ambulating patients, linen changes, showers, oral care, blood sugar monitoring, and more
• Bedside shift report expected for every patient every shift
