Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Stepdown Unit

Location: Cleveland, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Unit & Shift Details

  • Unit: HVTI-Stepdown (Progressive Care Unit)
  • Shift: 3x12 hour shifts only
  • Shift Rotation: Day/Night rotating shifts (7pm-7:30am / 7am-7:30pm)
  • Shift flexibility may be required to meet hospital operational needs
  • Must work at least every other holiday

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 18 months of permanent experience in the specialty prior to travel
  • Minimum 18 months of recent Stepdown experience (travel experience accepted)
  • PCU/Progressive care experience preferred but not required
  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required

Licensure & Certifications

  • Must have a permanent Ohio nursing license or a compact state license in hand
  • Required Certifications:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or American Red Cross
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or American Red Cross
    • NIHSS Stroke Certification (must be current)
  • ECG rhythm recognition test and SafeMedicate pass required during orientation

Orientation & Testing

  • Orientation includes ECG rhythm recognition and SafeMedicate testing; passing scores required
  • Pass/Fail testing for EKG and medication dosing during orientation
  • Unit-specific competency exam required within 12 months of start and updated annually

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, including Snellen eye exam (for candidates signing 4/11/2025 or later)
  • Fit mask (N95) fit test within 12 months, updated annually
  • Immunizations/vaccinations required:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (every 10 years)
    • Negative TB test (2-step PPD or equivalent) or chest X-ray if history of positive TB, updated annually
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) - 2 vaccines or positive titers with boosters if needed
    • Varicella - 2 vaccines or positive titer with booster if needed
    • Hepatitis B titer, series, or declination documentation
    • Seasonal flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption (declinations not accepted)
  • Drug screening: Standard 10-panel drug screen within 12 months, updated annually (instant drug screens not accepted)

Background & Compliance

  • Government-issued photo ID required and must be carried on assignment
  • Background check required prior to start, including:
    • FCRA compliant 7-year search
    • SSN trace, counties, states, nationwide, sex offender registry, OFAC, FACIS Level 3, education verification
  • Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required
  • Fingerprinting (BCI and FBI) required within 48 hours of contract signing and updated annually
    • Must be completed under nursing code 4723.09
    • Facility will conduct additional fingerprinting onsite
    • Candidates may start with fingerprint results pending if fingerprinting is completed prior to start
  • References: 2 professional references from within 1 year of start, from manager/supervisor level (co-worker references not accepted)
  • Employment application must include 3 years prior work history with at least 2 years clinical acute care experience in a similar area

Facility-Specific Requirements

  • Completion of online onboarding and training modules prior to start (must be done on a computer using Google Chrome)
  • Modules include safety manual acknowledgement and other facility-specific training
  • Candidates must complete medication/pharmacology competency exams as applicable
  • Annual skills checklist required
  • Candidates must be prepared to comply with all facility policies and testing requirements
