Position Details

- Unit: Emergency Department (ED)
- Staffed Beds: 228
- Ratios: 1:4-5 patient ratio
- Schedule Requirements: Every other weekend and every other holiday required
- Floating: No floating between units required
- On-call: Not required
- Block Schedule: Not accommodated
Experience Requirements
- Years of Experience: Minimum 1.5 years in specialty (Registered Nurse)
- Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required
Certifications Required
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – Required for ER; must be current and issued by ARC, AHA, or US Department of Defense
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – Required for all RNs; must be current and issued by ARC, AHA, or US Department of Defense
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) – Required for all ED staff; must be current
- Other certifications (preferred but not required): PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support), NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure)
Licensure
- Must hold a valid Washington D.C. nursing license
- License must be current and not expiring within 30 days of start date
- NURSYS verification required
Compliance and Documentation Requirements
- Proof of COVID-19 full vaccination required (no medical or religious exemptions accepted)
- Background check: 7-year criminal history, sex offender registry, FACIS Level 3, and other standard checks within one year of start
- Drug screening: 9-panel drug test within last 12 months (instant acceptable)
- Physical exam: Initial and annual physical exam attesting to ability to meet job demands; must use facility-specific form
- Fit mask testing: Annual fit testing required within one year of start
- Immunizations and titers required:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (vaccine or declination form)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within one year
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (titer or 2 vaccines, booster if needed)
- Hepatitis B (vaccine, titer, or declination form)
- Varicella (titer or 2 vaccines, booster if needed)
- Flu vaccine required annually (religious/medical exemptions accepted with approval)
- Other health documents: Eye exam including visual acuity, color blind exam (mandatory, online not accepted)
- Employment application and clinical references required
- Competency exams and medication/pharmacology competency as applicable

- Scrub color: Royal Blue
- Parking: Employee responsible for parking costs; public transportation accessible nearby (Metro Shaw/Howard University station)
- Must carry government-issued photo ID during hours of service
