Job Description

• Unit: Medical Surgical (Med Surg)
• Shift: Nights, staffing ratio 1:5 or 1:6
• Floating: Must be willing to float within scope of practice and at unit leader’s discretion
• No local candidates within a 50-mile radius or specified counties (including Saratoga, Albany, and others)

Requirements

• License: Valid New York RN license
• Experience: Minimum 2 years acute hospital nursing experience (higher value confirmed)
• Prior Travel Experience: Required (must have completed at least one prior travel contract)
• Certifications:

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - required
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - preferred
  • EPIC experience - required
• Vaccinations:

  • Flu vaccine required by December 5th, 2024, or approved medical/religious exemption prior to start
• Must be willing to float as needed based on skillset and manager discretion

Required Documentation & Compliance

• Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License/State ID)
• Background checks including 7-year history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, and state-specific searches
• Physical exam within 1 year of start (onsite physical required with specific forms)
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (2-step PPD or Quantiferon Gold acceptable; T-spot not accepted)
• Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start
• Immunizations and titers:

  • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: 2 MMR boosters or positive titer required
  • Varicella: 2 boosters or positive titer required
  • Hepatitis B: Titer, declination, or vaccine series required
• Flu vaccine or approved exemption documentation required before start
• Color blindness test (Ishihara’s test) required prior to start
• EKG/ECG competency testing with passing scores required within 72 hours of contract signing
• Medication/pharmacology competency exam as applicable
• Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training (New York State requirement)
• Photo for badge
• Lift assessment (typically 25 lbs, may vary by position)
• Facility-specific forms including FCRA authorization, N95 OSHA questionnaire, PPD questionnaire, and others

Additional Notes

• Flu season protocols in effect until NYS Department of Health declares end of season or vaccine expires
• Candidates must complete all required Healthstream orientation modules prior to start
• Facility requires quantitative N95 fit testing for 3M 1870 mask; qualitative tests not accepted
• References: 2 professional references required for travel, allied, and per diem acute care roles

This position is ideal for experienced travel RNs with acute care background and prior travel assignments, who are comfortable working night shifts and floating as needed in a medical surgical setting.
