Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Home Health

Location: Lees Summit, Missouri
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Provide, coordinate, and direct home nursing care according to physician orders and agency policies.
  • Supervise and evaluate Home Health Aides and Licensed Practical Nurses/Licensed Vocational Nurses.
  • Conduct home visits with periodic office meetings.
  • Average patient load: 5-8 patients per day.
  • Types of cases: Start of Care, Wound Care, Follow-up Visits, etc.
  • Must be willing to travel up to 75 miles from the home clinic, with an estimated weekly travel of 175-225 miles.
  • Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM. Weekend on-call may be available at times.
  • Charting system: Proficiency required in HomeCare HomeBase (HCHB) and OASIS (for RNs).

Requirements

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse with Home Health experience.
  • Experience: Minimum 1 full year of Adult Home Health experience or 1 full year Hospice experience (whichever is higher).
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required.
  • First-timers: Not accepted; must have recent specialty experience.
  • Certifications: Current CPR and BLS required.
  • Licensure: Must have license in hand; pending licenses not accepted.
  • Transportation: Reliable transportation, current driver's license, and agency-required liability insurance required.
  • Technology: Must be proficient with HomeCare HomeBase (HCHB) and OASIS (RNs). If not used within the last 6 months, retraining is required.

Work Environment

  • Dress code: Scrubs.
  • Patient visits are conducted in home settings.
  • Mileage reimbursed at IRS standard rate (from patient home to patient home; commute to/from first and last patient is not billable).
  • Weekend and on-call requirements vary; discuss during interview.

Productivity Expectations

  • Weekly units of productivity: 25-30 points.
  • Each patient visit and related activity has a point value; typically assigned 5-10 patients per day equating to roughly 6-8 points daily.

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

  • Must complete and maintain all required background checks, including but not limited to:
    • Standard 7-year background check with aliases.
    • State-specific searches and registries as applicable.
    • Fingerprinting as required by state regulations.
  • Required health documents include:
    • Physical exam within 12 months of start.
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months.
    • Proof of immunizations or titers for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella.
    • Drug screening (10-panel).
    • Flu vaccination or documented declination.
    • COVID vaccination series or declination.
  • Must review and sign various compliance, confidentiality, and policy documents prior to start and annually if assignment extends beyond one year.
  • Must have personal or auto insurance policy valid and up to date for home health placements.

Additional Notes

  • Local candidates are accepted at the same rate.
  • Some positions may follow a Baylor shift schedule (4x10s, Friday-Monday), but most are standard 5x8, Monday-Friday.
  • Weekend on-call availability may be required occasionally.
  • Candidates must be comfortable with travel within the specified territory covering multiple Missouri counties.

This position is ideal for experienced Registered Nurses with a strong background in home health nursing who are comfortable with travel and working independently in patient homes.
