Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Jersey City, New Jersey
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Shift:

    • Option 1: 2 shifts from 3 PM to 11 PM + 2 shifts from 12 PM to 12 AM
    • Option 2: 2 shifts from 3 PM to 11 PM + 2 shifts from 1 PM to 1 AM
    • Final schedule to be discussed during interview
  • Call: 2 times per schedule

  • Facility Level: Level 2 Trauma Center

  • Patient Mix: All OR specialties except Open Heart

  • Required Skills:

    • Must be able to circulate and scrub
    • Robotic and ENT experience required
    • Experience in ortho, vascular, general, thoracic, and neuro surgeries required
  • Charting System: EPIC

  • Scrubs Provided


Experience Requirements

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (Operating Room)
  • Years of Experience: Minimum 2 years of current acute care or OR experience
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not required (first-time travelers accepted)

Certifications & Licenses Required

  • BLS (Basic Life Support): Required
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support): Required for adult critical care and OR settings (confirm specifics if needed)
  • Additional Certifications:
    • May require other certifications depending on unit (e.g., PALS, NRP, Chemo certification) – verify based on assignment
  • State RN License: Must be valid and verifiable
  • Skills Checklist: Must submit work history scrub and circulate skills checklist

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Background Checks:

    • Criminal background check within 30 days of start
    • Must include all aliases, locations worked/lived in past 7 years, and various federal/state checks
    • No open cases allowed at start
    • Attestation required if background check is pending at start
  • Health Documents:

    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within required timeframe
    • Physical exam within the last 12 months, cleared to perform essential job functions
    • Drug screen within 30 days of start
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually
    • Immunizations: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (documentation required)
    • Fit test and respiratory clearance as applicable
    • Latex allergy questionnaire if job tasks require glove use
  • Competency Exams:

    • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam within 12 months
    • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required for critical care and OR units
    • Color blindness test if job tasks require color discrimination
  • Orientation & Training:

    • Must complete annual education sign-off and facility-specific orientation
    • Pass/fail testing (EKG, medication) required with remediation policy in place
    • Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) training required for ER, Peds ER, and Behavioral Health RNs (not applicable here unless assigned)

Additional Notes

  • References: Two references within the last 2 years required, including at least one managerial reference
  • Employment History: 7 years of work history required, with verification of at least 1 year prior to start date for New Jersey candidates
  • Floating Policy: Must complete for every new assignment or site transfer
  • First-time travelers accepted

This position offers an opportunity to work in a high-acuity Level 2 Trauma Center with a diverse surgical patient population. Candidates should have strong OR skills, including robotic and ENT experience, and be comfortable with circulating and scrubbing duties.
