Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Binghamton, New York
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Overview

  • No call, no weekends
  • Maximum 5 days of Return to Office (RTO)
  • Block scheduling not accommodated
  • Must hold a valid New York nursing license at time of application
  • Must be able to work across all areas and patient diagnoses in the OR; candidates with experience in only one specialty area will not be accepted
  • Scrubs provided

Required Experience & Skills

  • Specialty: Operating Room Registered Nurse
  • Years of Experience: Minimum 3 years of prior OR RN experience required
  • Must be well-rounded with experience in multiple surgical specialties including but not limited to:
    • Bariatrics
    • Vascular
    • ENT
    • Endoscopic Procedures
    • General Surgery
    • Gynecology
    • Neurosurgery
    • Ophthalmology
    • Orthopedics
    • Plastics
    • Podiatry
    • Robotics
    • Urology
  • Additional required skills/knowledge:
    • Emergency management
    • Cell Saver operation
    • Administration of blood products
    • Infection control
    • Laser safety
    • Radiation safety
    • Specimen handling/labeling
    • Universal Protocol (time out) procedure
  • BLS certification required
  • Epic charting experience preferred
  • Prior travel experience required; first-time travelers will NOT be accepted unless they have 3+ years of OR experience
  • Candidates must live at least 50 miles from the facility (locals not accepted)

Certifications & Licenses Required

  • New York State RN License (must be current and in hand)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) may be required depending on unit
  • NURSYS Verification for RN license
  • Harassment Prevention Training Certificate (New York, with 1-year expiration)
  • Other certifications as applicable based on specialty and facility requirements

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check within 1 year of start, updated annually
  • Education verification (ASN/BSN for RNs) – certificates not accepted as verification
  • Physical exam within 90 days of start, signed by a licensed provider, confirming fitness to work
  • Respirator Fit Test within 1 year of start, updated annually
  • Negative 9-panel drug screen within 90 days of start
  • Immunizations and titers:
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (positive IGG titer or 2 vaccines)
    • Varicella (positive IGG titer or 2 vaccines)
    • Hepatitis B (series, declination, or positive titer)
    • Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption during flu season
    • COVID-19 vaccination (2 doses) or approved exemption; booster not required
  • TB testing: QGold/TSpot within 90 days or 2 PPDs with documentation, updated annually
  • Respirator clearance via RespSafety questionnaire prior to start
  • References: 2 professional references required
  • Employment application and unit-specific skills checklist (updated annually)

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must review and sign facility-specific documents including confidentiality agreement, job description, and RN modules
  • Must complete facility-required training modules prior to start
  • Photo for badge must meet specific guidelines (neutral background, no hats/masks/sunglasses)
  • No block scheduling; must be flexible to work all OR areas and patient types

This position is ideal for experienced OR Registered Nurses with a broad surgical background and prior travel contract experience seeking a travel assignment in New York.
