Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (MS/Tele)

Location: Rochester, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract

Job Description

  • Unit: Medical-Surgical/Telemetry (MS/Tele)
  • Patient Diagnoses: Cardiac disease, stroke, infection, pain, pulmonary embolism (PE)
  • Work Settings Required: MS/Tele
  • Key Responsibilities:
    • Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
    • Use of Rapid Response Teams
    • Peripheral line care/management (PICC lines and central lines)
    • Non-invasive airway management
    • Oxygen delivery via nasal cannula, face masks, portable oxygen tanks
    • Isolation precautions
  • Special Equipment: Bladder scanners, telemetry monitors, EKG machines, Lifepacks
  • Float Requirements: MS, Emergency Department (ED), ICU (stable patients), acute brain injury (stable patients)
  • Staffing Ratios:
    • Day/Evening: 5:1 (stretch 6-7)
    • Night: 6-7:1 (stretch 8-10 if staff calls in)
  • Support Staff: Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) assist with vital signs, blood glucose checks, EKGs, and activities of daily living
  • Phlebotomy: In-house team performs peripheral lab draws

Requirements

  • Years of Experience: Minimum 1 year in specialty (MS/Tele)
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not required; first-time travelers accepted
  • Certifications:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA provider/instructor/RQI acceptable
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA provider/instructor/RQI acceptable
    • PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM as required by unit description
    • NIH Stroke Certification required for all RNs except birthing units & OR
  • Licensing:
    • Pending license not accepted
    • State license primary source verification required within 30 days of start
    • NURSYS verification required within 30 days for RN
  • Other Competencies:
    • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam as required
    • Color blind testing required (not annual)
    • Competency exam as required by specialty
    • Orientation safety manual acknowledgement required
  • Schedule: Every other weekend required
  • Block Scheduling: May be accommodated but not guaranteed
  • Return to Office (RTO): Keep close to 1 week
  • Locals: Not accepted within 75 miles
  • Uniform: Navy blue/white scrubs

Health & Compliance Requirements

Candidates must complete health-related requirements and lab work within 5 days of signing the contract:

  • Physical exam (within 1 year, updated annually)
  • Fit mask test (within 1 year, updated annually)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (within 1 year)
  • TB questionnaire (in lieu of annual TB test renewal)
  • Immunizations/vaccinations or proof of immunity for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B
    • Varicella
  • Drug screening (within 30 days of start)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination (required during flu season)
  • Eye exam (Snellen, within 1 year)
  • COVID vaccination copy preferred but not required

Background & Documentation

  • Government-issued photo ID required
  • 7-year criminal background check (felony checks) within 3 months of start
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 3 months and run monthly
  • Education verification from primary source required (no hard copies)
  • Foreign equivalency evaluation if education obtained internationally
  • Transcript/diploma required if no education verification on file
  • References: 2 references within 3 years required for Aya candidates
  • Employment application and work history verification required
  • Facility-specific documents and photo for badge required

State-Specific Requirements (New York)

  • NYS Nurse Aide Registry (if applicable) within 3 months of start
  • NYS Criminal Background Check Fingerprint Results (for certain units)
  • Disciplinary Action Search Results (for certain units)
  • Sex Offender Registry Search within 30 days of start
  • NY Medicaid Exclusion List check within 3 months and run monthly

This position offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic MS/Telemetry unit with a supportive team and a variety of patient diagnoses requiring specialized nursing skills. The role requires a minimum of 1 year of experience in the specialty, with no prior travel experience necessary. Compliance with health, background, and licensing requirements is mandatory.
