Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Acute Care) - New York, NY
Position Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (Acute Care)
- Location: New York City, New York
- Employment Type: Travel/Contract
- Contract Length: 12 weeks
- Shift: 4x12-hour night shifts per week (7:00 PM to 7:30 AM)
- Patient Age Group: Adults
- Staffing Ratios: 1:5 (Days, Nights, and Weekends)
- Weekend Coverage: Every other weekend, approximately 2 weekend shifts per scheduling period
- Float Requirement: Yes, float to acute inpatient units; potential float to Emergency Department for admitted patients waiting for beds
- Unit: Acute inpatient with telemetry, including transplant, oncology, surgical services, acute rehab, GI/GU, neurology
- Preferred Work Settings: MS/Telemetry (required), Telemetry & ER Holding (preferred)
- Documentation System: EPIC
- Unit Systems: Omnicell
Required Experience & Skills
- Years of Experience: Minimum 2 years (Note: First-time travelers not accepted unless they have more than 2 years of experience)
- Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required, but first-time travelers must have over 2 years of experience
- Clinical Skills:
- Cardiac monitoring and management of dysrhythmias
- Interpretation of dysrhythmias
- IV Therapy including blood product administration, central and peripheral line care/management
- Respiratory care: nasal cannula, oxygen administration, non-invasive airway management (required)
- Isolation precautions (required)
- EKG exam upon arrival (required)
- Management of cardiac drips (preferred, no titration)
- Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support) required
- NYS Department of Health RN License required
- ACLS, PALS, NRP, Chemotherapy certifications may be required depending on unit (refer to unit specifics)
- Orientation: 1 shift skills lab + 1 shift unit orientation
- Scrubs: Green
Compliance & Background Requirements
- Criminal background check within 30 days of start (7-year search including Social Security trace, state and county searches)
- Education verification confirming nursing degree
- State license verification (hard copy of NY license with green border and signature required)
- Drug screen (Aya standard 9-panel within 1 year)
- Various background checks including EPLS, OIG, and Medicaid exclusion list
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, updated annually
- Fit mask test (N95) within 1 year, updated annually
- Immunizations and titers required:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
- Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella titers with vaccination if needed
- Hepatitis B positive titer or declination
- Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually by November 1
- Harassment prevention training certificate (New York specific)
- Medication and pharmacology competency exams (Relias)
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (pass/fail, time sensitive)
- Core competency exams (Parts I, II, III) and OSHA mandatory training annually (Relias)
- Color blind testing (100% score required)
- References: 2 manager/supervisor references required (charge nurse references generally not accepted)
Additional Information
- Unit accepts PCU nurses
- No rotating shifts
- Expected to work weekends as needed
- Provider support available including interpretation services, IV teams, pharmacy, physical therapy, rapid response teams, respiratory services, social services, transportation, and unit secretary
- Special equipment used: Alaris pumps, Kangaroo pumps, Stryker beds, Posey alarms, glucometers
- Facility-specific documents and policies must be reviewed and signed (e.g., Code of Conduct, Privacy & Confidentiality, Drug-Free Workplace, Quality & Safety Practices)
- Photo ID for badge required within 72 hours of contract signing (specific photo requirements apply)
- Onboarding and continued education modules must be completed within 30 days of start
This position is ideal for experienced acute care RNs seeking a short-term travel assignment in a dynamic clinical environment with a reputable healthcare system in New York City.
