Experience Requirements

Certifications Required

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) (AHA or ARC)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) (AHA or ARC) - Not required for Pediatric Stepdown
  • Other certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., ACLS, NRP, TNCC) - verify unit-specific requirements

  • NURSYS verification required within 30 days of start

Competency & Testing Requirements

  • Medication/Pharmacology Competency Exam (must score 85%) within 12 months of start
  • Color Blind Testing (required for all candidates on/after 8/2/2024, must score 80%)
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam required for certain units (verify unit)

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 12 months of start
  • Fit mask test within 12 months, updated annually (3M N95 preferred)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray documentation required
  • Tdap vaccination highly preferred for pediatric specialties (declination accepted)
  • Required immunizations or proof of immunity: Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
  • 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (9/1 - 3/31)
  • COVID vaccination series preferred

  • Stroke Education (not required for Pediatric specialties)
  • CLABSI Prevention for Adult and Pediatric Training
  • Preventing Pressure Injury Training
  • Language Services Training
  • CAUTI Education Training (not required for PICU, NICU, Psychiatry/Behavioral Health)
  • Patient Transportation with Oxygen Education
  • Suicide Risk and Environmental Assessment Training
  • Pyxis ES MedStation Modules (not required for some campuses)
  • Baxter Pump Interoperability Training
  • Patient Bedside Rounding (except OR, Behavioral Health, Ambulatory, ER/ED)
  • Ventricular Assist Device Awareness (not required for some campuses)
  • AME Blood Administration Module (not required for Behavioral Health, Case Managers, Home Health)
  • New Employee Orientation Module
  • 21st Century Cures Act Module (required for RN except Home Health)
  • ED Handbook (for ED/ER RNs only)
  • eCart Training Module (not required for Pediatric, Periop/OR, Outpatient, Case Managers, Home Health)
  • Chaperone Policy Training (required as of 5/31/2024)

Additional Requirements

  • Employment application must include 7 years of work history with no gaps greater than 90 days
  • Work history verification required for all start dates on/after 8/2/2024
  • Attestation of prior radiation exposure required for certain tech and specialty roles (not typically for RN Pediatrics)
