Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Oncology
Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (Oncology)
- Shift: Monday to Friday, various day shifts (7:30 AM - 4 PM, 8 AM - 4:30 PM, 8:30 AM - 5 PM, or 9 AM - 5:30 PM)
- Weekends/Holidays: No weekends or holidays required
- Start Date: Approximately 3-4 weeks out, depending on compliance tier
- Patient Ratios: 1:20
- Years of Experience Required: 2 years in specialty
- Certifications Required:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- Chemotherapy certification (ONS/ONCC)
- On-Call: Not required
- Floating: Required to float within scope to other Siteman locations in the area
- Local Candidates: Not accepted (must be within 75-mile radius)
- Pending License: Accepted
- Guaranteed Hours: Yes
- Time Off Restrictions: No more than 7 days of requested time off per 13-week contract; attendance policies apply (max 3 tardies and 2 call-ins per contract)
Required Skills & Responsibilities
- Administration of chemotherapy (IV push, continuous infusion, oral administration)
- Body fluid handling post-chemotherapy
- Management and disposal of cytotoxic spills
- Monitoring chemotherapy effects and recognizing/communicating abnormal lab values
- Central line certification required
- Oncology experience preferred but not mandatory
- Accessing ports, dressing changes, and drawing labs

Compliance & Documentation Requirements
Background Checks
- Criminal background check within 6 months of start (7-year search including statewide, nationwide, sex offender, and international if applicable)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG quarterly checks
- Education verification of highest nursing degree
- State-specific searches and highway patrol checks as required
- Fingerprinting required for assignments at or floating to long-term care or rehab units in Illinois
Certifications
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) if applicable
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) if applicable
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) required for certain units or extensions
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) or MAB (Management of Assaultive Behavior) if applicable
- IV Certification for LPN/LVN if applicable
- State License verification and NURSYS verification required
Competency Exams
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam as applicable
- Unit-specific competency exam, including Oncology competency exam for Med Surg-Oncology unit
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required for Oncology and other specified units
Health Documents
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Fit mask test (N95) required and must be renewed annually
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine or declination (Tdap every 10 years)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray (2 negative PPDs or T-Spot/Q-Gold within 1 year)
- Immunizations or immunity documentation for Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella
- Drug testing within 1 year of start, must include specific drug panels and be valid throughout assignment
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season (Sept-April)

- Confidentiality Form (annual)
- Regulatory Compliance Education (annual, must score 80% or higher)

- Orientation Modules (approx. 16 hours, required for all RNs and LVNs unless recently completed)

- Two professional references required (supervisors preferred)

- Unit-specific skills checklist required within 1 year of start (Oncology skills checklist required for Med Surg-Oncology unit)
Additional Notes
- Floating to multiple Siteman locations within the St. Louis area is required
- Parking fees apply for orientation and day shifts; no charge for straight night shifts
- Strict attendance and tardiness policies enforced during the contract
