Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (RN) - Women's Services (LDRP)
Location: Nampa, Idaho
Specialty: Women's Services (Labor & Delivery, Postpartum, OR Circulation/Triage)
Contract Length: 13 weeks (travel assignment)
Shift Length: 12-hour shifts (7a-7p and 7p-7a)
Schedule:
- No guaranteed block scheduling; travelers fill in schedule gaps
- Weekend shifts as needed, no minimum requirement
- No call or standby required
- Floating required to multiple sites within the region (L&D, Postpartum, Antepartum, or sitter roles)
Experience & Requirements
- Years of Experience: Minimum 3 years in Labor & Delivery (L&D), Postpartum, and OR Circulation/Triage
- Additional Experience:
- Must be able to attend deliveries and provide 1 hour of newborn care
- Experience with magnesium sulfate administration
- Mother-baby experience preferred (at least 1 year)
- Charge nurse experience preferred
- Prior Travel Experience: Not required; first-time travelers are accepted
Certifications Required
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- STABLE certification
Unit Details
- 14 LDRP beds (patients stay in the same room)
- 2 OR suites for C-sections (RNs circulate and recover)
- 4 triage beds staffed by travelers
- Approximately 90 births per month (1200 per year)
- Staffing ratios follow AWHONN guidelines:
- Labor: 1:1 (except 2 cervical ripening patients may be paired)
- Postpartum: 1:3 couplets
- Triage: 1:3 (up to 4 patients with resource nurse support)
Patient Population & Care
- Common diagnoses:
- Gestation 32 weeks and greater
- Hypertension requiring magnesium sulfate
- Blood alcohol concentrations (BACs)
- Trial of labor after cesarean (TOLAC)
- Gestational diabetes
- Antepartum patients included; no placenta previa or placenta accreta cases
- Diverse patient population, including many referred from home birth midwives for medical intervention and pain control
Clinical Responsibilities
- Attend deliveries and provide newborn care
- Circulate in C-sections and provide postpartum couplet care
- Titrate drips including Pitocin, magnesium sulfate, and occasionally insulin
- Charge nurses do not take patient assignments; resource and triage nurses assist with breaks and deliveries
- Stabilize newborns, perform physical assessments, and provide care within the first 2 hours
- Collaborate with OB hospitalists and Neonatal Nurse Practitioners available 24/7
- Anesthesia available 24/7
- Respiratory therapy available for troubleshooting
Orientation & Policies
- 4 shifts of unit-specific orientation covering C-section, labor, and postpartum care
- Compliance and EPIC Curio assignments must be completed before starting
- Hospital-issued scrubs required; must change in and out at beginning and end of shift
- No fingernail polish, acrylic, or gel nails allowed due to embedded NICU within LDRP rooms
- Travel duos require separate cars due to floating between sites
- Floating to multiple sites within the region (Meridian, Nampa, Boise) is required
Additional Notes
- Charge nurse preferred but not mandatory
- Resource nurse acts as a "baby catcher" and second sign-off on medications
- Telemetry capability available but no tele/monitor techs on unit; RNs read their own strips
- No minimum holiday or weekend requirements for travelers; regular staff have holiday rotations
- CNA and surgical tech support available but may vary due to staffing
