Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Bloomington, Indiana
Specialty: Registered Nurse (PCU)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Unit & Patient Population

  • Mixed Acuity Unit: Comfortable working with ICU to some PCU ratios
  • Patient Diagnoses: Cardiovascular Surgery, Thoracic Surgery, Cardiology, Endocrine, Oncology
  • Largest patient population in CVICU includes CV surgery and thoracic surgery patients (CABG, TAVR, SAVR, MVR, VATS)
  • Additional populations: Med/Surg, Progressive, ICU of cardiovascular and oncology patients
  • Unit has all private rooms with overhead lifts and telemetry

Staffing & Scheduling

  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • Shifts:
    • 8 and 10 hour shifts (40 hours/week)
    • 3 shifts of 12 hours (36 hours/week)
    • 4 shifts of 12 hours (48 hours/week)
  • Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
  • No on-call required
  • Floating within scope to meet facility needs is expected
  • Locals not accepted
  • Pending licenses not accepted; must have Indiana state license and required certifications in hand

Experience & Requirements

  • Minimum Specialty Experience: 18 months (1.5 years)
  • Prior travel experience: Not required (first timers accepted)
  • Charge nurse experience preferred
  • Must be comfortable with interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, post-cardiac surgery care, arterial line management, blood product administration, central and PICC line care, titrating cardiac and vasoactive drips
  • Preferred skills: Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump, Pre/Post Cardiac Cath/intervention, Sheath Removal, Ventricular Assist Devices (LVAD/RVAD/Impella), ventilator management and care of ventilated patients

Certifications Required

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or RQI accepted
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or RQI accepted
  • NIH Stroke Certification preferred
  • Other certifications may be required depending on unit (PALS, NRP, CHEMO, TNCC, EFM)

Licensure

  • Indiana State RN License required and must be verified online within 30 days before start
  • No pending licenses accepted

Compliance & Documentation

  • Background checks required within 90 days of start, including 7-year work/living history, SSN trace, criminal, sex offender, FACIS Level III, education verification
  • Drug testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start
  • Fit mask test within 12 months of start with approved respirators (3M N95 models, Honeywell N95)
  • Immunizations and titers required:
    • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted
    • Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted
    • Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination required
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap preferred but not required
    • Flu vaccination/documentation required during flu season (9/30 - 3/31); no declinations accepted except approved medical/religious exemptions
  • TB testing: Negative TB test (PPD, QuantiFERON, or T-SPOT) within 1 year of start; chest x-ray required if positive history
  • Color blind testing required (Ishihara exam or equivalent)
  • Medication/pharmacology competency exam and unit competency exam required
  • References: Minimum 2 references from recent employment within 2 years, with supervisory titles

Additional Notes

  • Must wear black bottoms and red scrub top
  • Charting system: Cerner
  • Parking: Free
  • IU Health will not allow Indiana RNs to work at their facilities after 11/30/2024 except for Periop/OR RN’s, Allied, and Ambulatory RN travelers (not applicable here)
