Job Opportunity: ER Travel Nurse (Registered Nurse)

Location: South Charleston, West Virginia
Facility Type: P4 Trauma Center (Level 4 Trauma Center)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

Seeking an experienced ER travel nurse for a 13-week assignment at a Level 4 Trauma Center. The ER treats approximately 70-75 patients daily, including trauma, medical, surgical, and pediatric cases. The unit has 28 beds with 2 designated trauma/code rooms and includes fast track and separate triage and psych/seclusion areas.


Required Certifications

  • BLS (AHA)
  • ACLS
  • PALS
  • TNCC preferred (effective 10/21/2025, not currently required)

Experience Requirements

  • Specialty: Emergency Room Nursing with critical care skill set
  • Years of Experience: Not explicitly stated, but critical care skills required (implying advanced ER experience)
  • Experience managing cardiac dysrhythmias, critical drips, BiPAP, CPAP, mechanical ventilation
  • Radial ABG draw experience
  • Familiarity with critical care drips including TPA, sedation, paralytics, etc.

Work Environment & Support Staff

  • Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4
  • Charge nurse takes assignment but usually without patients
  • House supervisor available 24/7
  • ER techs assist with EKG, transport, CPR, vital signs, and tech duties
  • Respiratory therapists available 24/7 by call (not dedicated in ER)
  • Phlebotomy available 24/7; nurses assist with difficult sticks
  • No monitor techs; RNs read bedside monitors and strips
  • X-ray and CT located just outside ER; transport by ER techs or nurses

Shifts & Scheduling

  • Shift options:
    • 6:45 am to 7:15 pm
    • 10:45 am to 11:15 pm
    • 3:00 pm to 3:00 am
    • 6:45 pm to 7:15 am
  • Block scheduling allowed
  • Weekend requirement: every other weekend
  • Holiday requirement: rotational with core staff
  • No call or standby requirement
  • No floating required

Dress Code

  • RN/LPN: Navy scrubs
  • CNAs/Monitor Techs: Dark grey/pewter scrubs
  • Scrubs must be solid color, no embroidery or patterns
  • Solid color fleece zip-ups allowed in grey, black, navy, or royal blue
  • Solid undershirts in white, grey, or black matching scrub top
  • Closed-toed shoes only; no crocs

Orientation & Training

  • First day: general hospital orientation
  • Full day nursing orientation for RNs/LPNs
  • Computer training: half day for CNAs, full day for nurses
  • Two 12-hour orientation shifts with preceptor
  • Abbreviated Initial Skills Checklist due within 90 days
  • Typically 3 twelve-hour shifts per week with potential overtime
