Job Opportunity: CVICU Registered Nurse
Location: Madison, Wisconsin
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Shift: Evening/Nights, 8 shifts of 12 hours (1900-0730), every other weekend, some holidays, no call
- Unit: Cardiothoracic Surgery and Transplant team on an acuity adaptable unit
- Patient Population: Patients requiring specialized care for cardiac and thoracic surgeries, heart and/or lung transplants, and various medical devices
- Responsibilities:
- Deliver care combining technological expertise and patient/family-centered commitment
- Be part of a multidisciplinary team providing high-quality care
Experience Requirements
- Specialty: Registered Nurse with CVICU experience required
- Must have completed 2 years of acute care experience within the last 3 years
- Experience and knowledge of NextStage CVVH machine required
- Experience in Cardiothoracic Surgery and/or Acuity Adaptable area preferred
- Epic electronic health record experience required, preferably within the last 12 months
- Basic Arrhythmia experience required; must pass Telemetry test prior to start
Years of Experience Required: 2 years acute care (including CVICU experience)
Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required
Licensure & Certifications
- Must have a Wisconsin nursing license or a compact license from permanent address state
- BLS & ACLS certification required (American Heart Association only)
- Telemetry test (Basic Arrhythmia) must be passed before starting
Facility & Assignment Details
- Permanent address must be within 50 miles of the work site
- Floating required: may be assigned to multiple units or locations depending on staffing needs

Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Background check within 90 days prior to start, including SSN trace, county, nationwide, and sex offender searches
- Monthly monitoring through workforce monitoring systems (EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG)
- Education verification as applicable
- Wisconsin Caregiver Screening required within 90 days of start
- Drug screening required per Vaya standard
- Physical exam (per Vaya standard)
- Immunizations and health documents required:
- TB test or chest X-ray
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or titers, with medical/religious exemptions accepted
- Varicella vaccination or titer
- Hepatitis B vaccination or declination form
- Flu vaccination or approved exemption (annual requirement)
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination
- Meningococcal vaccine or declination (if applicable)
- Facility-specific forms including communicable disease, flu exemption, and pediatric/adult telemetry testing
- Telemetry testing (Adult and Pediatric) required and must be passed with remediation if needed
- Medication/pharmacology competency exams as applicable
- Photo for badge (passport-style, no selfies or headwear except for religious/medical reasons)
Additional Notes
- Strict testing and remediation process for telemetry exams with up to 3 attempts allowed
- Floating and shift flexibility expected
- High standards for compliance and documentation to meet facility and state requirements
This position is ideal for experienced CVICU RNs with acute care background, telemetry skills, and familiarity with cardiothoracic surgical patient care, seeking a travel contract in a top-ranked hospital setting.
