Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Madison, Wisconsin
Contract Length: 17 weeks
Position Overview
Seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) for a travel/contract role in the Operating Room. The RN will work with a multidisciplinary team to plan and coordinate patient care in the OR, ensuring efficient surgical case progression and turnover. The role involves day/evening 12-hour shifts, Monday through Friday (06:40 - 19:10), with weekday and weekend call responsibilities, and possible holiday call.
Specialty & Experience Requirements
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (Operating Room)
- Required Experience: Minimum 2 years of acute care experience within the last 3 years
- Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required
Clinical Focus Areas (Tier 7 - ENT, Eyes, Plastics)
- Eyes: Vitrectomy, open globe repair
- Plastics: Abdominoplasty, DIEP flap surgery (breast reconstruction), free flap, laparoscopic procedures
- ENT: Arch bars, facial repairs (mandibular, zygomatic), sinus surgery, radical neck dissection, tracheostomy, septoplasty, acoustics (cranial experience), direct laryngoscopy
- Ears: Cochlear implants
Equipment & Technology
- Constellation, Straight Shot, liposuction, neoprobe, NIM, Piezo, Klein Pump, Stryker Navigation
- Microscopes: Pentero, Mitaka, Leica
Licensure & Certifications
- Wisconsin nursing license or compact license from permanent address state required
- BLS & ACLS certification through the American Heart Association only
Work Environment & Additional Details
- Floating: May be assigned to multiple units or locations depending on staffing needs
- Permanent address must be within 50 miles of the primary work site

- Parking permit required if parking onsite; alternative transportation options available
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Background checks including SSN trace, nationwide, sex offender, and state-specific caregiver screening (WI)
- Education verification as applicable
- Drug screening per standards
- Various health documents including:
- Physical exam (within 1 year)
- Immunizations and titers: MMR, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap, Flu vaccine or approved exemption, TB testing and questionnaire
- Other vaccines as applicable (e.g., Meningococcal for certain departments)
- Facility-specific forms such as communicable disease, flu exemption, and pediatric/adult telemetry tests (as applicable)
- Annual competency exams and medication/pharmacology tests as required
- Orientation safety manual acknowledgment and pass/fail testing for telemetry and EKG/medication exams
Summary
This is a 17-week travel contract for an experienced Operating Room RN with acute care background, licensed in Wisconsin or holding a compact license, and certified in BLS and ACLS. The role requires flexibility to float between units and involves working with advanced surgical equipment in a top-ranked Magnet® hospital setting. Compliance with extensive background, health, and competency requirements is mandatory.
Note: Prior travel experience is not specified as a requirement for this position.
