Description

Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Emergency Room (Adult)

Location: Rochester, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 8 weeks


Position Details

  • Shift Hours: 7 PM - 7 AM
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • Holiday Requirement: Must be available to work every other holiday, if needed
  • Charting System: EPIC experience required
  • Floating: Required to float within skillset
  • Locals: RNs within 75 miles are not accepted (locals accepted for LPNs)
  • First-Time Travelers: Accepted

Licenses & Certifications Required

  • Active New York Single State RN license (NY is not Compact)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only
  • NIH Stroke Certification (as required by unit)
  • PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM certifications as required by unit description
  • State License Verification and NURSYS Verification within 30 days of start

Required Clinical Skills

  • IV therapy including blood product administration, central line care, phlebotomy, starting/maintaining IVs, IV vasopressors
  • CPAP/BiPAP and ventilator management
  • Care for CVA (stroke), neuro-trauma, spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury (TBI)
  • Cardiac monitoring and management of dysrhythmias
  • Emergency care including adult/pediatric ED, gunshot wounds, orthopedic trauma
  • Isolation precautions, triage, pediatric spinal cord injury

Unit Details

  • Patient Ratios: 1:5 (Adults, Geriatrics)
  • Patient Types: All emergency diagnoses
  • Special Equipment: Bair hugger, rapid infuser, safe patient handling equipment
  • Scrub Color: Navy blue and white combinations

Experience Requirements

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (ER)
  • Required Years of Experience: Not explicitly stated; assume minimum 2 years typical for ER travel RN roles
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not required (first-time travelers accepted)

Health & Compliance Requirements

Candidates must complete health-related requirements and lab work within 5 days of signing the contract, including but not limited to:

  • Physical exam (within 1 year)
  • Fit mask test (annual)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (within 1 year)
  • Immunizations or titers for Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
  • Drug screening (within 30 days of start)
  • Flu vaccination or signed declination during flu season
  • Eye exam (Snellen) within 1 year
  • COVID vaccination copy preferred but not required

Background & Verification

  • 7-year criminal background check (including felony checks) within 3 months of start
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 3 months of start and monthly thereafter
  • Education verification from primary source required
  • Work history verification (at least 2 past employments for direct candidates)
  • References required for direct candidates (2 references within 3 years)

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must submit any time-off or special scheduling requests upon application
  • The client may cancel up to three shifts during the 13-week contract without penalty
  • The emergency department is a state-of-the-art, 24/7 facility with advanced diagnostic technology and trauma services
  • The hospital is Magnet-recognized and an Advanced Thrombectomy Capable Stroke Center
