Job Opportunity: ICU Float Registered Nurse (RN) with ED Experience

Location: Seattle, Washington
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 16 weeks (interpreted from 16 weeks)


Position Overview

  • Role: ICU Float RN with Emergency Department (ED) experience
  • Start Date: March 9
  • Shift: Days, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (07:00 - 19:30)
  • Float: RN will float within scope to other ICU units as needed, including Neuro ICU and ED
  • Patient Ratios: ICU Days 1:1-2 (Hemodialysis patients 1:1)
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • First-time travelers: Not accepted

Experience & Skills Required

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (ICU)
  • Minimum Years of Experience: 3+ years ICU experience
  • Required Experience: ICU experience within the last year, plus Neuro ICU or strong neuro skills
  • Past Level 1 ED experience required (RN will also float to ED)
  • Telemetry experience required with proficiency in interpretation and management of dysrhythmias (a competency test will be administered)
  • Prior travel experience: Not explicitly required

Certifications Required

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA only
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) - Required for all ER RNs; ATCN certificate acceptable in lieu
  • Additional preferred certifications (not mandatory): CCRN, NRP, CHEMO, CPI

Background Checks & Compliance

  • 7-year criminal background check required within 45 days of start
  • Must run checks including counties, nationwide, sex offender registry, FACIS Level 1, WATCH (WA Access to Criminal History)
  • Education verification required for Med Lab Techs (not applicable here)
  • Additional checks: EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, Sex Offender Search, State-specific searches (Washington WATCH)
  • Photo for badge required (professional quality, waist up, no hats)

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year prior to start (not required by facility but required by agency)
  • Mask Fit Test within 12 months (specific mask models required)
  • Tdap vaccine within 10 years or declination form
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 90 days; annual TB questionnaire required
  • Required immunizations or titers: Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B (titer or declination), Varicella
  • Seasonal flu vaccine or declination required during flu season (09/29 - 03/31)
  • COVID vaccination or declination required for tracking purposes
  • Drug screening within past 12 months (agency requirement, not facility)

Competency Exams & Testing

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required (score must show 80% in dosage calculations)
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required (Relias Advanced Dysrhythmia Exam, 80% passing score, max 2 attempts)
  • Basic knowledge and orientation testing on site during orientation (not pass/fail)

Additional Requirements

  • Must sign facility-specific job description, license acknowledgment, equipment safety form, health history form, policies and procedures acknowledgment, security info form, personal data form, code of conduct acknowledgment, and other facility-specific documents
  • Completion of orientation modules prior to start date (approx. 2-3 hours)
  • References: 2 required (not uploaded but must be on profile)
  • No on-call required
