Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Medical Surgical)

Location: Fishersville, Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Shift: Day shift
  • Schedule: Every other weekend (EOW) plus 2 weekday shifts every two weeks based on staffing needs
  • Holiday Rotation: Required to work holidays in rotation (if 1 holiday in assignment, work it; if 2 holidays, work 1; if 3 holidays, work 2)
  • Patient Ratio: 1:6
  • Unit: 2 West – Medical Innovation Unit (32-bed medical/surgical unit focused on new technologies and innovative nursing practices)
  • First-time travelers accepted: Yes
  • Local radius rule: 50 miles (locals not accepted)
  • Pending license: Not accepted

Experience & Requirements

  • Years of Experience Required: 2 years in specialty (Registered Nurse)
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not required
  • Certifications Required:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA or ARC accepted
  • Additional Certifications (may be required depending on unit):
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
    • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure)
    • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
    • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) or MAB (Management of Assaultive Behavior) for behavioral health units
    • NIH Stroke Certification (for ICU, PCU, ED, Float Pool)

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Background Checks:

    • 7-year criminal background check within 30 days of start
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM check within 30 days of start
    • HHS/OIG check within 30 days of start
    • Virginia State Police Background Check (fingerprinting for behavioral health candidates)
  • Health Documents:

    • Physical exam within 1 year of start (renew annually)
    • Fit mask test (N95 preferred), updated annually
    • Tdap vaccine within past 10 years
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
    • TB questionnaire updated annually
    • MMR (Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella) – 2 vaccines or positive titer
    • Hepatitis B – positive titer, vaccine series, or declination
    • Varicella – 2 vaccines or positive titer
    • Negative 10-panel drug test within 30 days of start (including marijuana; zero tolerance policy)
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31)
  • References & History:

    • 2 professional references required
    • Current application/resume required
    • Skills checklist updated annually

  • RTO (Request Time Off) Policy: Must include RTO requests in submission and assignment confirmation documents

This position offers an opportunity to work in a cutting-edge medical/surgical unit with innovative technology and nursing practices.
