Job Description

• Specialty: Registered Nurse (Medical Surgical)
• Required Years of Experience: 1 year (minimum)
• First-time travelers accepted
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Locals not accepted (must be outside 50-mile radius)
• Pending license not accepted
• Holiday Time Off (RTO) Policy:

  • If 1 holiday falls in assignment, expect to work it
  • If 2 holidays, expect to work 1
  • If 3 holidays, expect to work 2
• Fast-paced inpatient surgical unit
• Previous surgical experience required
• Patient population includes pediatric surgical patients aged 12 and above (depending on procedure)
• Surgical specialties include:

  • General surgery
  • Abdominal surgery
  • Urological surgery
  • Orthopedic surgery
  • Hysterectomy
  • Mastectomy
  • Spine surgery
  • Bariatric surgery
• Block scheduling not guaranteed but grouping shifts may be possible

Certifications Required

• BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or ARC accepted
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - Required for applicable units
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - Required if working with pediatric patients
• Other certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., NRP, TNCC)

Background and Compliance Requirements

• Government-issued photo ID required
• 7-year criminal background check within 30 days of start
• EPLS/GSA/SAM check within 30 days of start
• HHS/OIG check within 30 days of start
• Virginia State Police Background Check performed by facility
• Fingerprinting via Virginia VSP National Criminal Background Check (effective 7/15/2025)
• Drug Testing: Negative 10-panel drug test within 30 days of start (including marijuana; zero tolerance policy)
• Physical Exam within 1 year of start, renewed annually
• Immunizations and health documents required:

  • Tdap vaccine within past 10 years
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
  • MMR (Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella) - 2 vaccines or positive titer
  • Hepatitis B - positive titer, vaccine series, or declination
  • Varicella - 2 vaccines or positive titer
  • Seasonal Flu Vaccination or approved exemption required annually during flu season (10/1 - 3/31)

Competencies and Documentation

• Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam as applicable
• Core competency exams and safety manual acknowledgements required
• Facility-specific documents must be reviewed and signed prior to start, including:
