Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse – Neuro PCU

Location: Roanoke, Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Shift: 3 shifts of 12 hours each (6:45 PM – 7:15 AM)
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts in a 6-week block
  • Holiday Requirement: Must work one holiday per 13-week contract
  • Charting System: EPIC experience required
  • Call-off Policy: Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks
  • License: Pending license accepted only if holding a single-state license from a non-compact state; otherwise, active Virginia State or Compact RN/LPN license required
  • Accepts First-Time Travelers: Yes
  • Locals Accepted: Yes, with radius rule applied

Required Certifications

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA only
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA only
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)

Required Clinical Skills

  • Cardiac monitoring and emergency response (dysrhythmia interpretation/management, Rapid Response/Code teams)
  • IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, central/peripheral line care
  • Medication administration, cardiac drips (no titration)
  • Respiratory support (nasal cannula, oxygen administration, non-invasive airway management)
  • Rapid Response and Isolation precautions

Unit Details

  • Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4–5 (travelers must be comfortable with a 1:5 ratio)
  • Patient population: Adult patients with neurological conditions
  • Includes 5 dedicated beds for continuous 24-hour epilepsy monitoring
  • Care involves neurosurgical recovery, stroke management, neuro-specific diagnoses, and medical overflow
  • Floating: Traveler will float to units within their clinical skillset
