Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - CVPICU (Pediatric CICU)

Location: Kansas City, Missouri
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)
Shift: Night shift, 48-hour shifts
Start Date: ASAP, ideally within 4-6 weeks


Job Description

  • Position in the Cardiac/Vascular Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (CICU/CVPICU).
  • Must have clear and documented critical care nursing experience in CICU/CVPICU.
  • May float to cardiac medical-surgical floor to assist with patients.
  • Pediatric CICU experience required: at least 2 years (highest required years of experience).
  • Prior travel experience required: Must have at least 12 months (1 year) experience working as a travel nurse; first-time travelers will not be accepted.
  • Certifications required:
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • Must hold a Missouri and Kansas State License or a Compact License valid in both states.

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Government-issued photo ID (driver’s license or state ID).
  • Proof of E-Verify or attestation.
  • Residency declaration form if working on a compact license.
  • Background check within 3 months of start, including county and statewide searches for Missouri and Kansas.
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start, updated every 6 months.
  • Primary source verification of state nursing license(s).
  • NURSYS verification for all RNs.
  • Pediatric pharmacology and competency exams.
  • Color blind testing (required for clinical staff).
  • Various facility-specific forms including health forms, TB questionnaire, medication review packet, and orientation safety manual acknowledgment.
  • Physical exam updated annually.
  • Immunizations and health requirements including:
    • Tdap (within 10 years)
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray (with specific timing requirements)
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella (proof of vaccination or titers)
    • Hepatitis B vaccination or declination documentation
    • Seasonal flu vaccination (current season required; no declinations accepted)
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days prior to start.
  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification required for RNs.
  • Pass/fail medication and EKG testing during orientation (100% required).
  • References: 2 supervisory references or performance evaluations within 1 year of start.
  • Performance evaluations and internal evaluations if applicable.

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must carry photo ID during hours of service.
  • Facility requires Missouri Highway Patrol check.
  • Candidates must complete parking permit request prior to start.
  • Pediatric skills checklist required.
  • Facility allows pend of some certifications (e.g., Behavioral Health RNs can pend PALS with PEARS onsite).
  • Candidates must be prepared for pediatric pharmacology and competency exams.
  • Facility emphasizes compliance with all documentation and testing requirements for clearance.
