Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Medical Surgical)
Location: Lynchburg, Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: 3x12 or 4x12 hour night shifts (19:00 - 07:00)
- Work radius: 60 miles
- Specialty: Medical Surgical (MS)
- Required Experience: Minimum 2 years Medical Surgical experience (teaching hospital experience preferred)
- Prior Travel Experience: Not accepting first-time travelers (prior travel experience required)
- Orientation: Biweekly orientation on Mondays
- Licensure: Candidates with pending certifications will be considered
- Dress Code: Any color scrubs, professional appearance, child-friendly print tops allowed, scrub/lab coat allowed
- Facility is a nicotine-free campus
Required Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – Required
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – Preferred
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Candidate profile including work history
- Specialty-specific skills checklist
- Minimum 2 manager/charge references within the past 2 years
- RN license verification (NURSYS verification within 2 days of submission)
- Copies of all required certifications
Additional Requirements
- Background checks including SS trace, county searches (last 7 years), nationwide, sex offender, FACIS Level 3 (updated annually)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks prior to start
- Education verification (MSW or BSW diploma for social workers, if applicable)
- Physical exam within 6 months of start
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start
- Annual TB questionnaire if applicable
- Immunizations: Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella (vaccines or positive titers required; exemptions apply for candidates born before 1957)
- Negative 9-panel drug screen within 90 days prior to start (instant drug screen permitted; marijuana not required)
- Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season (medical and religious exemptions accepted with mask requirement)
Competencies & Testing
- Medication test/pharmacology competency exam as applicable
- Color blind testing (Ishihara)
- Competency exam as applicable to specialty/profession
Notes
- Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training available onsite monthly; travelers must sign up for first available class after assignment starts
- Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM), Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure (NRP), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), NIH Stroke Certification may be required depending on unit assignment
