Job Opportunity: RN PACU (Travel)

Unit and Patient Population

• Unit Type: Combined Phase I and Phase II recovery
• Number of Beds: 8
• Typical Surgeries: General, Orthopedics, Plastics, Urology, Gynecology
• Patient Population: Primarily adults; pediatric patients seen monthly for ENT surgery blocks
• Hours of Operation: 6:00 AM – 6:00 PM

Patient Ratios (per ASPAN/AORN guidelines)

• Phase I:

  • 1:1 for unstable patients or children under 8 without support at bedside
  • 1:2 for stable patients
• Phase II:

  • 1:1 for unstable patients or children under 8 without support
  • 1:2 for children under 8 with support
  • 1:3 for stable patients

Job Responsibilities and Expectations

• Recover patients receiving moderate sedation or monitored anesthesia care (MAC)
• Float between Ambulatory Surgery Unit (ASU) and PACU
• No ventilator or intubation management required
• Call required approximately once per week (response time per facility guidelines)
• Average length of stay in PACU: ~1 hour

Required Certifications and Licenses

• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
• Valid nursing license (Nursys verification required)

Additional Requirements

• Completion of facility-specific competencies and exams (Core Competencies, Unit Exam, Skills Checklist)
• Personal health requirements including MMR, Fit Test, Hepatitis B, Influenza Vaccine, TB Test, Varicella, Annual TB Questionnaire, Physical/Health Statement, Drug Screen
• Professional requirements including Driver's License/State ID, 2 professional references, criminal background check, resume, education and employment verification, and various security clearances

• Techs, aides, and respiratory therapists available on unit
