Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (MS/Tele)

Location: Lafayette, Indiana
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Work on a Mixed Acuity Unit including medical patients and some PCU level of care patients.
  • Unit specialties include oncology, stroke, cardiac, gastrointestinal, and pulmonary care.
  • Patient ratios:
    • MS patients: 1:5-6
    • PCU patients: 1:3-4
  • Responsibilities include managing Cardizem, Amiodarone, and Insulin drips.
  • Care for unstable stroke patients and those requiring BiPAP.
  • Must have solid neurological (Neuro) nursing experience.
  • Accepting MS/Tele or PCU Registered Nurses.
  • Shift options: 3x12 or 4x12 hour shifts.
  • Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays.
  • Locals are NOT accepted for this position.
  • Pending license NOT accepted; must have an Indiana state license and required certifications in hand before starting.

Required Certifications

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only, RQI acceptable
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only, RQI acceptable
  • NIH Stroke Certification (required for ER RNs)
  • Other certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., Chemotherapy, TNCC, PALS, NRP)

Experience Requirements

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse with solid Neuro experience.
  • Years of experience: Not explicitly stated, but solid Neuro experience is required (implies at least moderate experience in neurological nursing).

Licensing & Compliance

  • Must have a valid Indiana RN license before start.
  • Background checks required within 30-90 days of start, including criminal, education verification, and federal exclusions.

    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted)
    • Varicella (positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted)
    • Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination
    • Seasonal Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption (declinations NOT accepted)

Additional Requirements

  • Must pass medication/pharmacology competency exam.
  • Must pass unit competency exam.
  • Must complete facility-specific orientation and compliance forms prior to start.
  • Minimum of 2 professional references from recent employment required.
  • Employment application must be current and explain any employment gaps over 30 days.
  • Must be able to work in a short-term acute care hospital setting with Cerner charting system.
  • Scrub color: red top, black bottoms.
  • Free parking available.

Important Notes

  • Effective 11/30/2024, Indiana RN travelers are generally not allowed to work at IU Health facilities except for Periop/OR RN’s, Allied, and Ambulatory RN travelers (including ENDO, IR RN, PACU, Cath Lab RN, SDS).
  • This position is NOT open to local candidates.
  • Must be willing to work 2 out of 3 major holidays.
