Job Description
- Work on a Mixed Acuity Unit caring for medical patients with some PCU level of care patients.
- Unit includes oncology, stroke, cardiac, gastrointestinal, and pulmonary care.
- Patient ratios:
- MS patients: 1:5-6
- PCU patients: 1:3-4
- Responsibilities include managing drips such as Cardizem, Amiodarone, Insulin, and Lasix.
- Care for unstable stroke patients and those requiring BiPAP.
- Must have solid neurological experience.
- Accepting MS/Tele or PCU RNs.
- Shift options: 3x12-hour shifts or 4x12-hour shifts.
- Locals are NOT accepted.
Required Certifications
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only, RQI acceptable
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only, RQI acceptable
- NIH Stroke Certification (required for ER RNs)
- Other certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., PALS, NRP, CHEMO, TNCC, EFM)
Licensure
- Must have Indiana state license, compact license, or Indiana temporary license in hand prior to start.
- Pending license accepted but must be obtained before starting.

Important Notes
- IU Health will not allow Indiana RN travelers to work at their facilities effective 11/30/2024, except for Periop/OR RN’s, Allied, and Ambulatory RN travelers (Periop includes ENDO, IR RN, PACU, Cath Lab RN, SDS). This position is not exempt.
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Valid Driver’s License or Passport (clear copy)
- Background checks including 7 years of history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG
- Education verification and transcript/diploma (official copies)
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam
- Unit competency exam
- Physical exam within 12 months of start
- Fit mask test within 12 months (N95 or approved respirators)
- Immunizations and titers:
- TB test within 1 year
- Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella (positive titer or 2 vaccines required, no declinations accepted)
- Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (strongly recommended)
- Seasonal Flu vaccination or approved exemption (no declinations accepted)
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months
- References: Minimum 2 from recent employment with appropriate supervisory titles
- Employment application with full work history and explanations for gaps
- Skills checklist within 12 months and annually
- Completion of facility-specific compliance and orientation documents prior to start
