Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Hagerstown, Maryland
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)
Specialty: Registered Nurse - Labor and Delivery (LDRP)
Experience Required: Minimum 2 years in specialty
Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required


Job Description

  • Work in Labor, Delivery, Recovery, and Postpartum (LDRP) unit
  • EPIC electronic medical record system experience required
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), Association of Women's Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN), and Fetal Heart Monitoring (FHM) certifications required
  • OB surgical recovery experience (C-section) highly preferred
  • Call schedule: Typically 16-20 hours every 6 weeks; some staff opt to pick up extra weekend and weekday shifts instead of call

Required Certifications

  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) – Required for LDRP
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) – Required for all positions
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – Required for multiple units; verify if applicable
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – Required for some units; check applicability
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) – Required for ER, preferred for ICU
  • State Nursing License – Maryland license or compact state license with proof of residency
  • NURSYS Verification – As applicable
  • NIH Stroke Certification – Required for all units except Pediatrics, OB, and Labor & Delivery; must obtain AHA or APEX certification within first week if not already held

Health and Compliance Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start
  • Fit mask test within 1 year, updated annually (specific mask types preferred)
  • Tdap vaccine within 10 years of start
  • Negative TB test (Qgold, Tspot, or True 2-Step PPD) within 1 year; positive results require chest X-ray and TB questionnaire
  • Immunity or vaccination for Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer; boosters required if negative)
  • Hepatitis B vaccination, positive titer, or declination form required
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 1 year of start
  • Seasonal flu vaccination required (no declinations accepted)

Background and Documentation

  • 7-year criminal background check within 1 year, updated annually (includes SS trace, counties, nationwide, sex offender registry, FACIS level 3)
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required annually
  • Fingerprinting required for school placements only (Maryland CJIS/DSS/FBI)
  • Proof of 2 clinical references required
  • Performance evaluation required if worked with the system over 1 year
  • Skills checklist updated annually for applicable units

Additional Notes

  • Local candidates within 50 miles receive a different pay rate (not included here)
  • Must provide proof of residency if using a compact nursing license
  • Orientation safety manual acknowledgment required
  • Medication and pharmacology competency exams required as applicable
  • Core competency testing required for substitutes
