Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Stepdown Unit

Location: Cleveland, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Unit & Shift Details

  • Unit: HVTI-Stepdown
  • Shift: 3x12 hour shifts only (7pm-7:30am / 7am-7:30pm)
  • Rotating day/night shifts; shifts may vary based on hospital operational needs
  • Must work at least every other holiday

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 18 months permanent experience in the specialty prior to travel
  • Minimum 18 months recent Stepdown experience (travel experience accepted)
  • PCU/Progressive care experience preferred but not required

Licensure & Certifications

  • Must have permanent Ohio nursing license or compact state license in hand
  • Required certifications:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification
  • ECG rhythm recognition test and SafeMedicate pass required during orientation

Orientation & Testing

  • Pass/fail ECG and medication testing completed onsite during orientation
  • Unit-specific competency exam required within 12 months of start and updated annually
  • Online training modules must be completed prior to start (typically takes multiple days)
  • Must complete SafeMedicate preparation materials prior to orientation

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, including Snellen eye exam (for candidates signing 4/11/2025 or later)
  • Fit mask test (N95) within 12 months and updated annually
  • Tdap vaccine every 10 years (religious/medical exemptions reviewed case-by-case)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months, updated annually
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccinations or positive titers required
  • Hepatitis B vaccination or titer or declination documentation
  • Varicella vaccination or positive titer required
  • Standard 10-panel drug screen within 12 months, updated annually
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season

Background & Compliance

  • Government-issued photo ID required and must be carried on assignment
  • Background check required prior to start, including FCRA compliant 7-year search
  • Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required
  • FBI and BCI fingerprinting required within 12 months and updated annually (code 4723.09 for nursing)
  • Fingerprinting must be completed within 48 hours of signed contract; facility will also conduct fingerprinting onsite
  • Primary source verification of state license and NURSYS verification within 30 days of start

Additional Requirements

  • Employment application must include 3 years prior work history with at least 2 years clinical practice in acute care and similar area
  • Two professional references required from employment within one year of start (manager, supervisor, charge nurse, or director)
  • Candidates must be able to safely perform essential job functions with or without accommodation
  • Candidates must complete annual orientation safety manual acknowledgement and pass/fail testing acknowledgment

Notes

  • Prior travel experience is NOT explicitly required for this position
  • Candidates must be prepared for variable shifts and holiday work
  • Modules and onboarding must be completed on a computer using Google Chrome; cannot be completed on a phone
  • Candidates with gaps greater than 6 months between Cleveland Clinic assignments may need to re-complete modules and orientation

This position offers an opportunity to work in a high-acuity stepdown unit within a major healthcare system in Ohio, requiring solid stepdown nursing experience and current certifications.
