Travel Registered Nurse (RN) - ICU/PCU Float

Location: Roanoke, Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

Seeking an ICU/PCU Float RN comfortable working across all ICU and PCU units. The role requires flexibility to float between units based on staffing needs, which may change every 4 hours.


Schedule

  • Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (6:45 AM - 7:15 PM)
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts in a 6-week block
  • Holiday Requirement: Must work one holiday during the 13-week contract

Required Experience

  • ICU experience required
  • Experience at a large Level 1 or Level 2 trauma facility required
  • Preferred: 2+ years of nursing experience in specialty

Required Certifications

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)

Required Clinical Skills

  • IV therapy: arterial line management, central/PICC line care, blood product administration, IV initiation & maintenance
  • Respiratory support: BiPAP & CPAP management, ventilated patient care
  • Medication administration: continuous IV sedation, emergency meds, titration of cardiac & vasoactive drips
  • Wound care: surgical wounds with drains or wound vacs
  • Cardiac monitoring: dysrhythmia interpretation & management
  • Endocrine/metabolic: IV insulin protocol adherence

Unit Details

  • PCU nurse-to-patient ratio: 5:1
  • ICU nurse-to-patient ratio: 2:1

Technology & Systems

  • EPIC charting experience required

Licensure

  • Active Virginia RN license or Compact RN license required
  • Pending license accepted only if holding a single-state license from a non-compact state

Additional Requirements

  • Must be comfortable floating between ICU and PCU units multiple times per shift
  • Accepts first-time travelers (prior travel experience NOT required)
  • Must work within a specified radius from the facility (radius rule applies)

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • I-9 or attestation
  • Driver’s License/State ID with address within 100 miles of facility
  • E-Verify or attestation
  • Background check (7 years, including all locations lived/worked in past 7 years)
  • Education verification (highest earned degree)
  • Physical exam within 1 year, free from communicable diseases
  • Fit test within 1 year, updated annually
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, updated annually
  • Drug screening (10-panel) within 30 days of start
  • Immunizations or positive titers for: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
  • Flu vaccination or declination form during flu season
  • 2 clinical references required
  • Skills checklist updated annually

Notes

  • Facility is a Level I Trauma Center and Magnet-designated for nursing excellence
  • Floating assignments may occur up to every 4 hours based on staffing needs
  • Call-off policy allows facility to cancel 1 shift per 2 weeks
