Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (MSDU RN) - Travel/Contract
Location: Rochester, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit & Patient Population
- Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU) - critical care step-down unit
- 26 beds
- Adult acute care patients requiring specialized care beyond general med-surg
- Patients from ED, PACU, ICU, and med-surg floors
- Continuous pulse-oximetry and telemetry monitoring
- Care includes airway management, acute BIPAP support, arterial lines, central lines, titrated medicated IV infusions
- Patient ratio: 1:5 to 1:7
Shift Details
- 3x12 hour night shifts
- Every other weekend required
Required Experience & Qualifications
- Minimum 1 year of experience in MedSurg nursing (higher years not indicated)
- Prior travel experience: Not required (first-time travelers accepted)
- Must have NY RN license in hand (no exceptions)
- BLS certification required
- EPIC charting experience required
Clinical Skills & Responsibilities
- Cardiac monitoring and emergency response: interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, use of rapid response/code teams
- IV therapy/phlebotomy: peripheral line care and management
- Respiratory care: nasal cannula, oxygen face masks, portable oxygen tanks, non-invasive airway management
- Professional skills: isolation precautions
Certifications (as required by unit)
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA provider/instructor/RQI accepted
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA provider/instructor/RQI accepted
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - as required
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - as required
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) - as required
- EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) - as required
- NIH Stroke Certification - as required
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Government issued photo ID (Driver’s License/State ID)
- 7-year criminal background check within 3 months of start
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 3 months of start, run monthly
- Education verification from primary source (no hard copies)
- Foreign equivalency evaluation if applicable
- Transcript/diploma if no education verification on file
- Primary source verification of NY RN license within 30 days of start
- NURSYS verification within 30 days of start
- Orientation safety manual acknowledgement
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam as required
- Color blind testing (one-time)
- Competency exams as required by specialty
- Photo for badge (passport style)
- Physical exam within 1 year, updated annually
- Fit mask test within 1 year, updated annually (specific mask types accepted)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- Immunizations or titers for: Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
- Drug screening within 30 days of start (if booked within 30 days)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination during flu season
- Snellen eye exam within 1 year (not annual)
- COVID vaccination copy preferred but not required
Additional Notes
- Locals must live within 75 miles radius
- Patient care requires adaptability, vigilance, and compassionate multidisciplinary teamwork
- Facility is a tertiary care hospital with 528 staffed beds
- Scrub color: any combination of navy and white
This position is ideal for a MedSurg RN with at least 1 year of experience, NY licensure ready, and EPIC charting skills, looking for a travel contract in a critical care step-down environment.
