Job Opportunity: Cath Lab Tech

Location: Rockville, Maryland
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Summary

  • Role: Cath Lab/Interventional Radiology (IR) Tech
  • Accepts RCIS certification if candidate has IR experience
  • Caseload ratio: 8-12 cases
  • Weekend requirement: 1 full weekend per month on call
  • On-call: Approximately 7-10 days per month; STEMI call team must respond within 30 minutes of activation with a 2-hour callback guarantee
  • Schedule: 10-hour day shifts, no block scheduling, no floating between units
  • Facility Type: Acute Care Hospital, Level II Trauma
  • Total Staffed Beds: 360
  • Charting Systems: Cerner, McKesson
  • Scrub color provided

Required Qualifications

  • Licenses & Certifications:
    • Current Maryland State Medical Device License (MD License) or RCIS certification
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only
    • ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) certification or RCIS for IR experience
  • Specialty Experience: Minimum 1 year experience in Cath Lab/IR (implied by certification and role requirements)
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required
  • Background Checks:
    • 7-year criminal background check within 1 year of start, updated annually
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
  • Drug Testing:
    • 11-panel drug screen including cotinine/nicotine and marijuana within 30 days of start
    • No tobacco or nicotine use allowed (including vaping, gum, patches, etc.)
  • Health Requirements:
    • Physical exam within 1 year of start, updated annually
    • Fit mask test within 12 months of start (no religious or medical exemptions accepted without facility approval)
    • Immunizations and titers: Tdap, Hepatitis B (positive quantitative titer required), MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella), Varicella
    • Negative TB test (QuantiFERON or TSPOT within 90 days) or 2-step TST with clear chest x-ray if history positive
    • Seasonal flu vaccination required (no declinations except approved religious/medical exemptions)
    • Color blind exam within 5 years
  • Other Certifications (as applicable):
    • PALS, NRP, TNCC, NIH Stroke Certification (not specifically required for this role but noted for other units)
  • Documentation:
    • Proof of I9 or attestation
    • Government-issued photo ID
    • Education verification or transcript/diploma (highest degree completed)
    • Primary source verification of license
    • References: 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
    • Employment application/resume
    • Skills checklist updated annually
    • Radiation badge provided by facility for new radiology candidates

Facility Policies

  • Strict no tobacco/nicotine policy; failure of nicotine/cotinine drug screen results in automatic cancellation
  • Must comply with fit testing requirements; facial hair must be trimmed/shaved as needed
  • Fingerprinting required for behavioral health units (not applicable here)
  • Facility is smoke/nicotine free campus with no exceptions
  • Orientation forms must be physically carried onsite on first day
  • Candidates requesting fit test exemptions for medical or religious reasons must submit appropriate facility forms for approval
