Job Opportunity: MS/Tele Registered Nurse (RN)

Location: Rochester, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Specialty: Medical-Surgical/Telemetry (MS/Tele)
  • Shift: 4x12 hour night shifts
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • Patient Ratio: 1:5 to 1:7 for MedSurg patients
  • Experience Required: Minimum 1 year in specialty (Registered Nurse)
  • First Time Traveler: Accepted
  • Local Radius Requirement: Must live within 75 miles of the facility
  • Charting System: Must have EPIC experience

Required Certifications

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA provider/instructor/RQI accepted
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA provider/instructor/RQI accepted
  • NIH Stroke Certification (to be updated annually)

Required Licenses

  • Must have a valid New York State RN license in hand (no exceptions)

Clinical Skills & Responsibilities

  • Cardiac Monitoring and Emergency Response:
    • Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
    • Use of Rapid Response and Code teams
  • IV Therapy/Phlebotomy: Peripheral line care and management
  • Respiratory Care:
    • Nasal cannula, oxygen face masks, portable oxygen tanks
    • Non-invasive airway management
  • Professional Skills: Isolation precautions

Unit Description

  • Acute Stroke Unit (39 beds) specializing in acute stroke and neurological disorders
  • Provides evidence-based care focusing on stroke prevention and acute care phases
  • Tertiary care hospital with 528 staffed beds

Required Background & Compliance Checks

  • Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID)
  • 7-year criminal background check including SSN trace, national criminal, sex offender, education verification
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 3 months of start, run monthly
  • Foreign education equivalency evaluation if applicable
  • Education verification from primary source (no hard copy degrees accepted)

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, updated annually
  • Fit mask test within 1 year, updated annually (specific mask types accepted)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year; TB questionnaire annually
  • Immunizations or proof of immunity for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B
    • Varicella
  • Drug screening within 30 days of start
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination during flu season
  • Snellen eye exam within 1 year (not required annually)
  • COVID vaccination copy preferred but not required

Additional Requirements

  • Medication/pharmacology competency exam as required
  • Color blindness testing (one-time)
  • Competency exams as required by specialty
  • Orientation safety manual acknowledgement
  • Primary source verification of state license within 30 days of start
  • NURSYS verification for RN license within 30 days of start
  • Passport-style photo for badge
  • Employment application and work history verification (minimum 2 past employments)
  • References (2 within 3 years) required for agency candidates

Notes

  • Prior travel experience is not required for this position
  • This role accepts first-time travelers
  • Must be able to work nights and every other weekend
  • Local candidates must live within 75 miles of Rochester, NY

This position offers an opportunity to work in a specialized acute stroke and neurological care unit within a large tertiary care hospital, requiring strong clinical skills in telemetry and medical-surgical nursing with a focus on stroke care.
