Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Hospice

Location: Leominster, Massachusetts
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Provide and coordinate home nursing care according to physician orders and agency policies.
  • Directly supervise and evaluate Home Health Aides and Licensed Practical Nurses/Licensed Vocational Nurses.
  • Average patients per day: 5-8
  • Types of cases: Start of Care, Wound Care, Follow-up Visits, etc.
  • Work schedule: Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM
  • Weekend rotation: None
  • On-call: None
  • Travel radius: Must be willing to travel up to 75 miles from home clinic; typical weekly travel 150-200 miles.
  • Charting: Proficiency required in HomeCare HomeBase (HCHB) within the last 6 months; RNs must also be proficient in OASIS. Retraining required if not recently used.
  • Dress code: Scrubs

Required Qualifications

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (Hospice)
  • Minimum 1 full year of recent Hospice or Adult Home Health experience (whichever is higher, here 1 year Hospice experience applies)
  • CPR and BLS certification required (AHA, National CPR Foundation, or ARC accepted)
  • Must have a current, valid RN license for Massachusetts (license must be in hand; no pending licenses accepted)
  • Reliable transportation, current driver's license, and agency-required liability insurance required
  • Proficiency with electronic medical records (HCHB and OASIS)
  • Must be willing to travel within the specified territory
  • First-time travelers not accepted; recent specialty experience required

Additional Requirements

  • Must complete all required background checks, including but not limited to:
    • Standard 7-year background check
    • State-specific background and registry checks (including Massachusetts CORI and Nurse Aide Registry)
    • Drug screening (10-panel)
    • Fingerprinting as required by state regulations
  • Required health documents:
    • Physical exam within 12 months prior to start
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months
    • Proof of immunizations or titers for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
    • Flu vaccination or documented declination for current season
    • COVID-19 vaccination series or documented declination
  • Must review and sign all compliance, confidentiality, and policy documents prior to start
  • References: Two professional references required
  • Work history verification: Must verify at least two most recent employers or last 7 years if only one employer

Notes

  • This position is for a hospice RN providing home visits with periodic office meetings.
  • The contractor will be assigned 5-10 patients per day, equating to roughly 6-8 points per day (productivity expectations: 25-30 weekly units).
  • No guaranteed hours; if patient census is low, floating to a nearby clinic may be discussed.
  • Local candidates are accepted at the same rate.
  • Some positions may have a Baylor shift schedule (4x10s Friday-Monday), but most are standard 5x8 Monday-Friday.

This opportunity is ideal for experienced hospice RNs who are comfortable with home health care, electronic charting systems, and traveling within a defined territory.
