Job Opportunity: CVOR Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

Seeking a Registered Nurse with CVOR specialty for a travel contract position. The role requires scrub and circulate experience primarily in cardiac, thoracic, and vascular surgeries. The facility is a Level 1 Trauma center with a short-term acute care setting.


Required Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of specialty experience required.
  • Will consider 1 year if experience is at a Level 1 Trauma Facility.
  • First-time travelers accepted only if they have more than 2 years experience in a Level 1 Trauma Facility.
  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required.

Work Schedule & Requirements

  • Weekend work required per call policy.
  • On-call shifts as needed: approximately 3-4 weekday and 1-2 weekend call shifts per 6-week schedule, may vary by unit needs.
  • Rotating shift start times between 6:30 AM and 11:00 PM.
  • Monday through Friday work with call shifts.
  • No block scheduling accommodation.
  • Must be located at least 75 miles from the facility (no locals accepted).
  • Floating within the service line may be required.
  • Return to Office (RTO) restrictions: no more than 7 days.

Certifications & Licenses

  • Required:
    • Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in Missouri (pending licenses accepted).
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • Preferred:
    • BSN degree
  • Other certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., TNCC, PALS, NRP) — check unit-specific requirements.

Clinical Requirements

  • Scrub and circulate experience required.
  • Experience with cardiac and thoracic cases primarily.
  • Experience with vascular (open and endovascular procedures), transplant (liver, kidney, pancreas), and Whipple (pancreatic) procedures preferred.

Compliance & Background Checks

  • Government-issued ID required.
  • Criminal background check within 6 months, including statewide and nationwide searches.
  • Quarterly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required.
  • Education verification required prior to start.
  • Fingerprinting required for assignments in Illinois long-term care or rehab units (not applicable here).
  • Drug testing within 1 year of start, must include specific panels and be current throughout assignment.

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start.
  • Fit mask testing (N95 respirators) required and must be renewed annually.
  • Tdap vaccine or declination required.
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start.
  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination required; exemptions limited in certain units.
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season.

Additional Facility Requirements

  • Must complete facility-specific orientation modules (approximately 16 hours) via online platform.
  • Must review and sign facility policies including HIPAA, latex allergy, confidentiality, hand hygiene, fingernail, and dress code policies prior to start.
  • Badge photo required within 6 months of start date.
  • Vehicle registration form required for day shift workers.

References & Documentation

  • Two professional references required (supervisors preferred).
  • Employment application and unit-specific skills checklist required within 1 year of start.
  • Competency exams (medication, dysrhythmia/EKG, unit-specific) required and must be updated annually.
