Job Opportunity: CVICU Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
Contract Length: 16 weeks (preferred; 13 weeks acceptable)


Position Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (CVICU)
  • Experience Required: Minimum 2 years of Cardiac/CVICU ICU experience (highest requirement)
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not required (first-timers not accepted)
  • Shift Requirements: Weekend shifts every other weekend required
  • Patient Ratio: 1:2
  • Start Date: Approximately 3-4 weeks from compliance clearance
  • Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
  • Floating: May float within service line as needed
  • Local Candidates: Not accepted (must live at least 75 miles from facility)
  • Pending License: Accepted

Required Certifications

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • Must pass Relias EKG competency exam prior to start

Clinical Requirements / Skills

  • Cardiac/CVICU ICU experience only (no neuro ICU)
  • Ventilator management
  • Arterial line management
  • Pulmonary artery catheter management
  • Pacemakers, Impellas, Balloon pumps, LVADs
  • Management of acute heart failure, CHF exacerbation, fluid overload, post cardiac arrest, complete heart block, cardiogenic shock, pre-heart transplant, arrhythmias, ventricular tachycardia
  • Vasoactive drips, central lines, PA/TVP catheter monitoring
  • Dialysis, Foley catheter care
  • Intra-aortic balloon pumps, LVADs, Impella devices

Compliance & Background Requirements

  • Government-issued ID required
  • Criminal background check within 6 months (including statewide, nationwide, and international if applicable)
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks (quarterly)
  • Education verification of highest nursing degree
  • State-specific background checks for Missouri
  • Drug testing within 1 year of start, must include comprehensive panel (amphetamines, benzodiazepines, cocaine, opiates, etc.)
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start
  • Fit mask test (N95) required and must be renewed annually
  • Immunizations and health screenings:
    • Tdap vaccine or declination (every 10 years)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within required timeframe
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination/declination as applicable
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption during flu season
  • Drug testing and immunization documentation must be current and on file

Facility-Specific Requirements

  • Must complete facility orientation modules via WorkRamp (approx. 16 hours) unless completed in current calendar year
  • Required to review and sign facility policies including:
    • HIPAA Acknowledgement
    • Latex Allergy Questionnaire
    • Confidentiality Form
    • Hand Hygiene Policy
    • Fingernail Policy
    • Dress Code Policy
  • Badge photo required (head and shoulders, white background, no obstructions, taken within 6 months)
  • Limited time off allowed: up to 2 requests totaling no more than 40 hours (5 days) during contract

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must meet or exceed competency exam scores (Relias Basic Dysrhythmia or equivalent)
  • Oncology competency exam required if assigned to oncology units (not applicable here)
  • References: Two professional references required, preferably supervisors within the last year
  • Employment application and unit-specific skills checklist required within 1 year of start

This position is ideal for experienced CVICU RNs with strong cardiac ICU skills seeking a travel contract in a Magnet & Teaching Level I Trauma Center hospital.
