Description

Travel Registered Nurse (Behavioral Health)

Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Shift: 3x12 hour night shifts
  • Patient Ratios: 1:6
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • Guaranteed Hours: 3 shifts per 13 weeks
  • On-call: No
  • Floating: Within service line and to all Behavioral Health units
  • Block Schedule: Not accommodated
  • Locals Accepted: No (within 75 mile radius)
  • Pending License Accepted: Yes
  • Return to Work Restrictions: No more than 7 days

Patient Population & Unit

  • Adult psychiatric and geriatric patients (18+ years)
  • Patients with co-morbid medical conditions requiring med-surg approach
  • Diagnoses include dementia, depression, Parkinson's Disease, bipolar disorder, anxiety
  • Some patients require pre-op prep for ECT
  • Locked unit, inpatient behavioral health setting

Required Experience & Skills

  • Years of Experience: Minimum 1 year in specialty (Registered Nurse, Behavioral Health)
  • First-time travelers accepted (not AO)
  • Skills required:
    • Geriatric care
    • Inpatient psychiatric care
    • Locked unit experience
    • Medical/Psych care
    • Substance use/chemical dependency
    • Medication administration (PO, rectal, IM, IV, SC, etc.)
    • Starting and maintaining IVs
    • Blood glucose monitoring
    • Foley catheter insertion and maintenance
    • Presence in milieu
    • Restraint application
    • Ability to work as charge nurse as needed

Certifications Required

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) Blue Card or MAB (Management of Assaultive Behavior) if applicable
  • Epic experience required (electronic health record system)
  • Additional certifications may be required based on unit

Licensure

  • Must hold a valid Registered Nurse license for Missouri
  • Pending licenses accepted

Additional Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start
  • Drug testing within 1 year of start, must not expire during assignment
  • Immunizations and health screenings required:
    • Tdap vaccine or declination
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination/declination as applicable
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption during flu season
  • Fit mask testing (N95) required and must be renewed annually
  • Background checks including criminal, statewide, and federal exclusions required and must be current
  • Education verification required
  • Unit-specific competency exams and skills checklists required and must be updated annually
  • References: Two professional references required (supervisors preferred)

Notes

  • Floating may include other Behavioral Health units with similar patient populations
  • Manager open to interviewing first-time travelers (not AO)
  • No on-call requirement
  • No block scheduling accommodation
  • Must comply with all facility-specific policies including dress code, hand hygiene, and orientation modules

This position is ideal for a Behavioral Health Registered Nurse with at least 1 year of experience who is comfortable working night shifts in an inpatient locked psychiatric unit with adult and geriatric patients, including those with complex medical and psychiatric co-morbidities.
