Job Opportunity: Pediatric CVPICU Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Kansas City, Missouri
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)
Shift: Nights, 36 hours/week
Start Date: ASAP, ideally within 4-6 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking an experienced Pediatric Critical Care Registered Nurse for the CVPICU (Cardiovascular Pediatric Intensive Care Unit). The nurse may occasionally float to the Cardiac Med Surg floor to assist with patients.
Required Experience
- Minimum 2 years of nursing experience overall
- At least 1 year of Pediatric CVPICU critical care experience clearly documented in work history
- Prior travel experience required: Must have completed at least 12 months (1 year) as a travel nurse; first-time travelers will not be accepted
Required Certifications
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) – AHA only (HeartCode accepted, RQI not accepted)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – AHA only (RQI not accepted)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) – AHA only (HeartCode accepted, RQI not accepted)
Licensure
- Registered Nurse license required
- Must hold either a Missouri and Kansas State RN license or a Compact RN license valid in Missouri and Kansas

Compliance & Onboarding Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID required on shift
- Background checks including county and statewide searches for Missouri and Kansas
- E-Verify proof required
- Various health documents including:
- Physical exam (initial and annual)
- Immunizations: Tdap, MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella), Varicella, Hepatitis B
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray as per facility policy
- Seasonal flu vaccination (mandatory, no declinations accepted)
- Drug screening (10-panel, within 30 days prior to start)
- Competency exams including pediatric pharmacology and medication tests
- Pass/fail testing on EKG/medication calculations (100% required)
- References: 2 supervisory references or performance evaluations within 1 year of start
- Facility-specific forms and acknowledgments required prior to start
Summary
This is a night-shift travel contract for an experienced Pediatric CVPICU RN with at least 2 years nursing experience, including 1 year in pediatric critical care and prior travel nursing experience. The position requires multiple certifications and dual-state licensure or compact licensure. The facility is a high-level pediatric trauma and teaching hospital with a strong focus on pediatric critical care.
