Job Opportunity: House Supervisor (Registered Nurse)

Location: Newark, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

  • Serve as RN supervisor providing clinical expertise and problem-solving support during off shifts (evenings, nights, weekends, holidays) for a 180-bed skilled nursing facility with 5 units.
  • Facilitate staff mentoring, coaching, and patient flow.
  • Units care for residents with dementia, Alzheimer’s, orthopedic rehab, cardiac issues, and long-term care needs.
  • Manage special equipment such as wound vacs, PICC lines, nephrostomy tubes, tube feeds, indwelling catheters, and colostomies.

Shift Details

  • 3 shifts of 8 hours and 1 shift of 12 hours per week (36 hours total)
  • Shift times vary: 11pm-7am, 3pm-11pm, 7pm-7am
  • Weekend coverage every other weekend

Required Experience & Skills

  • Minimum 2 years of nursing experience (including previous charge nurse experience required)
  • EPIC electronic health record experience required
  • Skilled Nursing Facility experience
  • Code management and emergency preparedness
  • De-escalation techniques and managing assaultive behavior
  • Infection control, isolation procedures, and regulatory compliance (DPH, TJC, OSHA)
  • Supervising nursing care across multiple units
  • Starting and maintaining IVs, PICC line care/management
  • Coaching and counseling staff to performance standards
  • Knowledge of federal and state labor laws (FMLA)
  • Customer service and incident reporting skills

Licensure & Certifications

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required
  • ACLS, PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM, NIH Stroke Certification as required by unit
  • State license primary source verification required within 30 days of start
  • NURSYS verification required within 30 days of start

Additional Requirements

  • Must be located more than 75 miles from the facility (no local candidates accepted)
  • First-time travelers accepted
  • Prior travel experience NOT explicitly required
  • Government-issued photo ID required
  • Background checks including 7-year criminal history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG
  • Education verification and transcript/diploma as applicable
  • Physical exam, drug testing, and various immunizations/vaccinations required (including TB, Hepatitis B, MMR, Varicella, Flu seasonal vaccination)
  • Fit mask and eye exam required annually
  • Competency exams and medication/pharmacology testing as required
  • Photo for badge required

Patient Population & Unit Details

  • Moore Place: Neurobehavioral unit for dementia/Alzheimer’s with violent behaviors
  • Bilz Unit: Rehab unit for post-orthopedic surgery and cardiac patients
  • Vantassel Unit: Secure dementia unit for residents at risk of elopement
  • Schulz & Wolf Units: Long-term care residents
