Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse
Location: Charlottesville, Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Clinical review and auto offer process
- Rotating shifts, 36 hours per week
- Expected to cross-train to Mother/Baby unit
- Can approve up to 40 hours for time off
- Work schedule includes every other holiday and every other weekend
- Average annual deliveries: 2000
- Facility features: 8 private labor rooms, 4 private triage beds, 2 OB operating rooms
- Patient population includes low risk (including certified nurse midwife population) and high risk (maternal fetal medicine)
Required Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- Fetal Monitoring
- AWHONN Intermediate
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) may be required depending on unit
- Other certifications may be required based on unit assignment (e.g., PALS, TNCC, EFM)
Required Licenses
- Valid Virginia RN license (VA license pending submissions accepted)
Required Experience
- Specialty: Registered Nurse in Labor and Delivery
- Minimum years of experience: Not explicitly stated; assume standard RN experience for Labor and Delivery roles (typically 1-2 years)

Work Schedule & Hours
- Rotating shifts
- 36 hours per week
- Every other holiday and every other weekend
Additional Requirements & Compliance
- Background checks including 7-year criminal history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG
- Education verification (BSN preferred; ASN required if no BSN)
- Drug testing (10-panel including marijuana and fentanyl) within 2 months of start, updated annually
- Immunizations and health screenings including:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray (2-step PPD or Qgold acceptable)
- Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella vaccinations or positive titers
- Hepatitis B surface antibody titer (positive required)
- Varicella vaccination or titer
- Flu vaccination (seasonal, no exemptions)
- Physical exam attesting ability to meet physical demands, updated annually
- Pass/Fail cardiac rhythm assessment during orientation (required for adult inpatient RN and Mother-Baby units)
- Compliance with professional appearance guidelines and facility-specific policies
- Fit testing for patient-facing clinical roles (completed onsite if required)
Patient Population & Unit Details
- Labor and Delivery with cross-training to Mother/Baby
- Low risk and high risk OB patients including maternal fetal medicine
- Facility has private labor and triage rooms and OB operating rooms
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Virginia
- Minimum 1 year of Labor and Delivery experience within the last year
- BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
- Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience working with adult patients
- Experience working with high-risk patients
- Experience working with maternal-fetal patients
- Experience in an inpatient setting
Notes
- Candidates can submit applications with Virginia RN license pending
- Prior travel experience is not required for this position
- Rotating schedule with some holiday and weekend work required
- Cross-training to Mother/Baby unit expected
