Travel/Contract Registered Nurse (Step Down)
Location: Louisville, Kentucky
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Work with a surgical and cath lab population.
- Experience required with chest tubes, epicardial wires, sheath/radial band management.
- Familiarity with cardiac drips such as Amiodarone, NTG, Cardizem, etc.
- RN ratio: 4:1 on days, 4-5:1 on nights.
- Must pass an advanced dysrhythmia (EKG) competency exam.
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Kentucky.
- Minimum 2 years of stepdown nursing experience, with stepdown experience within the last year.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Experience with chest tubes, epicardial wires, and sheath/radial band management.
- Familiarity with cardiac drips such as Amiodarone, NTG, Cardizem, etc.
Required Certifications & Licenses
- NIH Stroke Certification preferred (must be within 1 year of start date).
- NURSYS verification required.
Competency Requirements
- Advanced Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (must be completed within 1 year of start and updated annually).
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam as applicable.
- Color Blind Testing prior to start.
- General Competency Exam prior to start.
Background & Verification Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check within 1 year of start, updated annually.
- Education verification matching specialty (transcript or diploma acceptable if verification unavailable).
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required.
- State-specific abuse registry check if applicable.
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start (not required by facility but required by agency standards).
- Fit mask test annually (with waiver process if failed).
- Tdap vaccine within 10 years (declination acceptable for non-clinical only).
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, updated annually.
- Baseline TB risk assessment within 90 days of start, updated annually.
- 2 MMR vaccines or IgG titer for Measles, Mumps, Rubella (declinations not accepted).
- Hepatitis B surface antibody titer, series, or declination required.
- 2 Varicella vaccines or IgG titer (declinations not accepted).
- Negative 9-panel urine drug screen within 90 days of start.
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31).
- COVID-19 vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required.
Additional Requirements
- Driver’s license if driving is a major job function.
- 2 professional references required.
- Employment application required.
- Unit-specific skills checklist required and must be updated annually.
- Performance evaluations completed by unit managers (not required prior to start).
Prior Travel Experience
- No explicit prior travel experience required.
This position is ideal for experienced RNs comfortable with cardiac step-down care and advanced cardiac monitoring in a fast-paced environment.
