Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (PACU)

Location: Rochester, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Shift: 12:00 PM - 8:30 PM (8-hour shifts)
  • Call Shifts: 2 weekend call shifts per month (part of 4 total call shifts: 2 weekend + 2 weeknight)
  • Unit Skills:
    • Phase I PACU
    • Phase II Recovery
    • Endo/Laparoscopic
    • General Surgery
    • Orthopedics (Ortho, Ortho/Spine, Ortho/Total joints)

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York
  • Minimum 1 year of recent PACU (Post Anesthesia Care) experience, including Phase I PACU
  • Experience in Endoscopy and Orthopedics
  • ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • PALS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Required Certifications

  • Other certifications may be required as per unit description (e.g., NRP, TNCC, EFM)

Required Licenses

  • Primary source verification required within 30 days of start
  • NURSYS verification required within 30 days of start

Facility & Work Environment

  • Short term acute care hospital
  • Teaching facility
  • Total staffed beds: 471
  • Scrubs provided (color: Teal)
  • Electronic charting system: Epic

Background & Compliance Requirements

  • Government issued photo ID required
  • 7-year criminal background check (including felony checks) within 3 months of start
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 3 months of start and updated monthly
  • Education verification from primary source required
  • Foreign equivalency evaluation required if education obtained internationally
  • Transcript/diploma required if no education verification on file

Health & Safety Requirements

Candidates must complete health-related requirements and lab work within 5 days of signing contract:

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start (updated annually)
  • Fit mask test within 1 year of start (specific mask types accepted)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start
  • Required immunizations or proof of immunity:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B
    • Varicella
  • Drug screening within 30 days of start
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination during flu season
  • Eye exam (Snellen) within 1 year of start
  • COVID vaccination copy preferred but not required

Competency & Documentation

  • Medication test/pharmacology competency exam as required
  • Color blind testing required once
  • Competency exam as required by specialty
  • Orientation safety manual acknowledgement required
  • Facility-specific documents and photo for badge required

Additional Notes

  • References required for Aya candidates only (2 references within 3 years)
  • Employment application and work history verification required
  • New York state-specific documents may be required depending on unit assignment (e.g., Nurse Aide Registry, fingerprinting, disciplinary action search, sex offender registry, Medicaid exclusion list)

This position is ideal for a Registered Nurse with PACU experience looking for a travel contract in a well-established acute care teaching hospital setting.
