Job Description
- Work in an outpatient pediatric oncology clinic
- Administer chemotherapy, biotherapy, blood product infusions, and treatments
- Minimum 2 years of experience in pediatric oncology required
- Certification required: APHON or ONS chemotherapy certification in hand
- Locals allowed at the same rate
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Virginia
- Minimum 2 years of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience working with pediatric patients
- Experience in an outpatient setting
- Experience in a clinic setting
Prior Travel Experience
- No explicit prior travel experience required
Background and Compliance Requirements
- Criminal background check within 60 days of start, including:
- All states lived/worked in past 7 years
- State of permanent residence
- VA Statewide Repository Search
- SS Trace
- All counties lived/worked in past 7 years
- Nationwide check
- FACIS Level 3
- Sex Offender Registry
- Education verification (degree from NLN or CCNE accredited program)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
- Fingerprinting required (Virginia State Police National Criminal Background Check) for all pediatrics units
- Virginia Central Registry (CPS) search and proof of submission required within 48 hours of contract signing
- Two professional references required
- Complete employment application/resume required
Health and Safety Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year attesting ability to meet physical demands
- Immunizations and titers required:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (vaccine or declination)
- Negative TB test (Q-gold/T-spot within 30 days of start or two PPDs)
- Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella titers with booster if low titer
- Hepatitis B titer, vaccine series, or declination
- Drug testing within 60 days of start (9-panel minimum, instant screens not accepted)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required for 2025-26 season
- HIPAA confidentiality acknowledgment required
Competency and Orientation
- Medication test/pharmacology competency exam required
- Abuse reporting competency covering physical/sexual abuse, domestic violence, neglect/exploitation of elderly or incapacitated adults
- Color blindness testing required
- Orientation includes:
- Pharmacology exam
- Point of care testing
- Airborne precaution mask fitting
- Basic Knowledge Assessment Tool (BKAT) for applicable units
- Completion of assigned learning modules (~6 hours) during orientation week
Additional Notes
- Candidates must bring a mask (cloth acceptable), non-wireless headphones, and a laptop or cell phone to orientation (notify if not available)
- Certifications expiring within 1 month of contract start will not be accepted
- No onsite certification renewals; renewals must be scheduled prior to start
