Job Description

• Work in an outpatient pediatric oncology clinic
• Administer chemotherapy, biotherapy, blood product infusions, and treatments
• Minimum 2 years of experience in pediatric oncology required
• Certification required: APHON or ONS chemotherapy certification in hand
• Locals allowed at the same rate

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Virginia
• Minimum 2 years of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology nursing experience, including experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Experience working with pediatric patients
• Experience in an outpatient setting
• Experience in a clinic setting

Prior Travel Experience

• No explicit prior travel experience required

Background and Compliance Requirements

• Criminal background check within 60 days of start, including:

  • All states lived/worked in past 7 years
  • State of permanent residence
  • VA Statewide Repository Search
  • SS Trace
  • All counties lived/worked in past 7 years
  • Nationwide check
  • FACIS Level 3
  • Sex Offender Registry
  • Education verification (degree from NLN or CCNE accredited program)
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
• Fingerprinting required (Virginia State Police National Criminal Background Check) for all pediatrics units
• Virginia Central Registry (CPS) search and proof of submission required within 48 hours of contract signing
• Two professional references required
• Complete employment application/resume required

Health and Safety Requirements

• Physical exam within 1 year attesting ability to meet physical demands
• Immunizations and titers required:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (vaccine or declination)
  • Negative TB test (Q-gold/T-spot within 30 days of start or two PPDs)
  • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella titers with booster if low titer
  • Hepatitis B titer, vaccine series, or declination
• Drug testing within 60 days of start (9-panel minimum, instant screens not accepted)
• Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required for 2025-26 season
• HIPAA confidentiality acknowledgment required

Competency and Orientation

• Medication test/pharmacology competency exam required
• Abuse reporting competency covering physical/sexual abuse, domestic violence, neglect/exploitation of elderly or incapacitated adults
• Color blindness testing required
• Orientation includes:

  • Pharmacology exam
  • Point of care testing
  • Airborne precaution mask fitting
  • Basic Knowledge Assessment Tool (BKAT) for applicable units
  • Completion of assigned learning modules (~6 hours) during orientation week

Additional Notes

• Candidates must bring a mask (cloth acceptable), non-wireless headphones, and a laptop or cell phone to orientation (notify if not available)
• Certifications expiring within 1 month of contract start will not be accepted
• No onsite certification renewals; renewals must be scheduled prior to start
