Job Opportunity: Behavioral Health Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Details

• Shift: 3x12 hour night shifts
• Patient Ratios: 1:6
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Floating: Within service line and to all Behavioral Health units
• Block Schedule: Not accommodated
• Locals Accepted: No (must be outside 75-mile radius)
• Pending License Accepted: Yes
• On-call: No
• Guaranteed Hours: 3 shifts per 13 weeks (cancelled shifts must be regular shift length)
• RTO Restrictions: No more than 7 days off

Patient Population & Unit Description

• Adult psychiatric and geriatric patients (18 years or older)
• Patients with co-morbid medical conditions requiring med-surg approach
• Diagnoses include dementia, depression, Parkinson's Disease, bipolar disorder, anxiety
• Some patients require pre-op prep for Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT)
• Work includes presence in milieu, restraint application, IV starts, Foley catheter insertion/maintenance
• May work as charge nurse as needed

Required Experience & Skills

• Valid RN license in Missouri
• Minimum 1 year of Behavioral Health experience within the last year
• Mental Health and Psychiatric experience
• Experience working with geriatric and adult patients
• Experience in an inpatient setting
• Substance use/chemical dependency experience
• Starting and maintaining IVs experience
• Blood glucose monitoring experience
• Foley catheter insertion and maintenance experience
• Experience with Epic electronic health record system
• BLS issued by American Heart Association
• CPI certification
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing

Required Certifications

• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) Blue Card (or MAB if applicable, but Blue Card preferred)
• Epic experience (electronic health record system)
• Medical and psychiatric nursing experience required
• Additional certifications may be required based on unit (e.g., ACLS not required for Behavioral Health)

Licensure

• Must hold an active Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in Missouri
• Pending licenses accepted
• Primary source verification required (NURSYS for Missouri)

Compliance & Background Requirements

• Government-issued ID required
• Criminal background check within 6 months (7-year search including statewide and nationwide)
• Quarterly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
• Education verification of highest nursing degree required
• State-specific searches and registries as applicable
• Drug testing within 1 year of start, must include standard panels and be valid throughout assignment
• Physical exam within 1 year of start
• Fit mask testing (N95) required and must be renewed annually
• Immunizations and health documents required:

  • Tdap vaccine or declination
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within required timeframe
  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination/declination as applicable
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season
• Facility-specific documents including HIPAA acknowledgement, confidentiality form, hand hygiene, dress code, and orientation modules must be completed prior to start

Additional Notes

• Must be willing to float within Behavioral Health units as needed
• No on-call requirement
• No block scheduling available
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Must be able to work every other weekend
• Manager open to interviewing candidates without prior travel experience

This position offers the opportunity to work in a Magnet & Teaching Hospital with a Level I Trauma Center designation, serving a diverse adult psychiatric and geriatric population in a short-term acute care setting.
