Job Opportunity: Behavioral Health Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details

- Patient Ratios: 1:6
- Guaranteed Hours: 3 shifts per 13 weeks
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- On-call: No
- Floating: Within service line and to all Behavioral Health units
- Block Schedule: Not accommodated
- Locals Accepted: No (must be outside 75 mile radius)
- Pending License Accepted: Yes
- Return to Work Restrictions: No more than 7 days off
Required Experience & Skills
- Years of Experience Required: 1 year in specialty (Behavioral Health)
- Prior Travel Experience: Not required; first-time travelers accepted
- Special Skills:
- Geriatric and adult psychiatric populations (18+ years)
- Inpatient, locked unit experience
- Medical/Psychiatric and substance use/chemical dependency knowledge
- Medication administration (PO, rectal, IM, IV, SC, etc.)
- Starting and maintaining IVs
- Blood glucose monitoring
- Foley catheter insertion and maintenance
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
- Medical and psychiatric experience required
- Ability to work with patients with co-morbid medical conditions requiring med-surg approach
- Restraint application and presence in milieu
- IV starts
- Pre-op prep for ECT (Electroconvulsive Therapy)
- Willingness to work as charge nurse as needed
Required Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) Blue Card (MAB not accepted in lieu; facility can accommodate CPI training onsite)
Patient Population
- Adult psychiatric and geriatric patients with diagnoses such as dementia, depression, Parkinson’s disease, bipolar disorder, anxiety, and mobility issues
- Some patients require pre-op preparation for ECT

Compliance & Background Requirements
- Government-issued ID required
- Criminal background check within 6 months (7-year search including statewide, nationwide, and international if applicable)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks quarterly
- Education verification of highest nursing degree
- Fingerprinting required for assignments at or floating to long-term care or rehab units in Illinois
- State-specific background checks for Missouri and Illinois as applicable
- Drug testing within 1 year of start, must include standard panels and be valid throughout assignment
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Fit mask test (N95) required and must be renewed annually
- Immunizations and health documents required:
- Tdap vaccine or declination
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination/declination
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption during flu season
- HIPAA acknowledgement, confidentiality form, latex allergy questionnaire, hand hygiene, fingernail, and dress code policies must be reviewed and signed prior to start
- Facility-specific orientation modules required (approx. 16 hours)
Additional Requirements
- Unit-specific competency exams including medication and dysrhythmia/EKG competency (updated annually)
- Skills checklist within 1 year of start (oncology skills checklist if applicable)
- Two professional references required (supervisors preferred)
- Employment application required
- Background and compliance documents must be current and uploaded prior to start
Requirements / Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Missouri
- Behavioral Health experience with at least 1 year within the last year
- Mental Health and Psychiatric experience
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience working with geriatric and adult patients
- Experience in an inpatient setting
- Medication administration experience
- Experience starting and maintaining IVs
- Blood glucose monitoring experience
- Foley catheter insertion and maintenance experience
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
Notes
- Floating may include other Behavioral Health units with adult and older adult patients
- Candidates must be able to work night shifts and meet weekend requirements
- No block scheduling or local candidates accepted
- Manager open to interviewing first-time travelers
This position is ideal for a Behavioral Health RN with at least 1 year of experience, comfortable working night shifts in a locked inpatient psychiatric setting, and skilled in both psychiatric and medical nursing care.
