Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - CVICU
Location: Charlottesville, Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit Description
- 24-bed Thoracic Cardiovascular ICU (TCV ICU)
- Patient population includes those undergoing cardiac, vascular, and thoracic surgical procedures such as CABG, valve replacement/repair, heart transplantation, and lung transplantation
- Day shift
- Scheduling: 36 or 48 hours available; block scheduling cannot be guaranteed
- Every other weekend and every other holiday required
- Maximum 40 hours allowed for time off
- Must adhere to facility float policy
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Virginia
- Minimum of 1 year of Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) experience within the last year
- Experience in Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit (CTICU)
- Current ACLS certification issued by the American Red Cross or American Heart Association
- Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience in an inpatient setting
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
Certifications & Competencies
- BLS and ACLS required (AHA or ARC accepted)
- Other certifications (PALS, NRP, TNCC, CHEMO, etc.) may be required based on unit assignment but not specified for this role
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam required as applicable
- Pass/Fail Cardiac Rhythm Assessment required during orientation for adult inpatient RN positions
- Physical exam and health screenings as per facility policy
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray (2-step PPD or Qgold within 12 months; Tspot not accepted)
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination (no declinations or exemptions allowed)
- Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: 2 vaccines or positive titer required; no declinations accepted
- Hepatitis B: Positive Hep B Surface Antibody titer required or specific antigen testing as per policy
- Varicella: 2 vaccines or titer required; declination accepted but must be documented
- Flu vaccination required annually (no exemptions or declinations accepted)
- Drug testing: 10-panel including marijuana and fentanyl, within 2 months of start and updated annually
Background & Compliance
- 7-year criminal background check within 60 days of start, updated annually
- Education verification required (BSN preferred; ASN minimum if no BSN)
- Proof of I9 or attestation
- Government-issued photo ID required during hours of service
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated every 30 days
- Fingerprinting may be required depending on unit (facility will notify)
- Abuse registry search required only for specific units (not applicable here)
- References: 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations required
- Employment application and skills checklist required
Additional Notes
- Candidate must review and initial professional appearance guidelines and traveler compliance documents
- Fit testing required for patient-facing clinical roles, completed onsite if required
- Block scheduling cannot be guaranteed
- Must be able to work every other weekend and holiday
- Must adhere to facility float policy
