Travel Registered Nurse (RN) – PCU (Pulmonary/GI)

Location: Roanoke, Virginia

Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Details

• Shift: 3x12 hour shifts (6:45 AM – 7:15 PM)
• Schedule: Every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts in a 6-week block
• Charting System: Epic experience required
• Call Off Policy: Allowed 1 shift call off per 2 weeks
• Holiday Requirement: Must work one holiday per 13-week contract
• Floating: Required to float within skillset
• Patient Population: Adults and geriatrics in a PCU/stepdown unit with primary Pulmonary/GI focus
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:5
• Unit Details: No ventilators on unit; may work without CNA support
• Accepts: First-time travelers and local candidates within radius rule
• Pending License: Accepted only if holding a single-state license from a non-compact state; otherwise, active Virginia State or Compact RN license required

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Virginia
• Minimum 1 year of recent experience in Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
• Experience in Direct Observation Unit (DOU), Intermediate Care, or Stepdown settings
• Current ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
• Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
• NIHSS certification
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Experience working with adult and geriatric patient populations
• Proficient in cardiac monitoring, emergency response, and dysrhythmia interpretation and management
• Skilled in IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and central/peripheral line care
• Experience with medication administration including cardiac drips
• Experience using Epic electronic charting system

Required Documentation & Compliance

• I-9 or attestation
• Driver’s License/State ID (must meet radius requirements)
• E-Verify or attestation
• 7-year background check (within 1 year of start)
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks (within 30 days of start and updated for renewals)
• Transcript or diploma verifying highest earned degree
• Education verification
• Physical exam within 1 year, free from communicable diseases
• Fit test within 1 year, updated annually
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, updated annually
• Drug screen (10 panel) within 30 days of start
• Required immunizations or positive titers: Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
• Flu vaccination or declination form during flu season
• 2 clinical references
• Completed employment application/resume
• Annual skills checklist update
• Photo for badge

Additional Notes

• Must work one holiday during the 13-week contract
• Floating within skillset expected
• No ventilator patients on unit
• Facility is Magnet-designated and a Level I Trauma Center
• Epic charting system experience required
