Travel Registered Nurse (RN) – PCU (Pulmonary/GI)
Location: Roanoke, Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: 3x12 hour shifts (6:45 AM – 7:15 PM)
- Schedule: Every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts in a 6-week block
- Charting System: Epic experience required
- Call Off Policy: Allowed 1 shift call off per 2 weeks
- Holiday Requirement: Must work one holiday per 13-week contract
- Floating: Required to float within skillset
- Patient Population: Adults and geriatrics in a PCU/stepdown unit with primary Pulmonary/GI focus
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:5
- Unit Details: No ventilators on unit; may work without CNA support
- Accepts: First-time travelers and local candidates within radius rule
- Pending License: Accepted only if holding a single-state license from a non-compact state; otherwise, active Virginia State or Compact RN license required
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Virginia
- Minimum 1 year of recent experience in Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
- Experience in Direct Observation Unit (DOU), Intermediate Care, or Stepdown settings
- Current ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- NIHSS certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience working with adult and geriatric patient populations
- Proficient in cardiac monitoring, emergency response, and dysrhythmia interpretation and management
- Skilled in IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and central/peripheral line care
- Experience with medication administration including cardiac drips
- Experience using Epic electronic charting system
Required Documentation & Compliance
- I-9 or attestation
- Driver’s License/State ID (must meet radius requirements)
- E-Verify or attestation
- 7-year background check (within 1 year of start)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks (within 30 days of start and updated for renewals)
- Transcript or diploma verifying highest earned degree
- Education verification
- Physical exam within 1 year, free from communicable diseases
- Fit test within 1 year, updated annually
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, updated annually
- Drug screen (10 panel) within 30 days of start
- Required immunizations or positive titers: Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
- Flu vaccination or declination form during flu season
- 2 clinical references
- Completed employment application/resume
- Annual skills checklist update
- Photo for badge
Additional Notes
- Must work one holiday during the 13-week contract
- Floating within skillset expected
- No ventilator patients on unit
- Facility is Magnet-designated and a Level I Trauma Center
- Epic charting system experience required
