Job Opportunity: Respiratory Therapist (RRT) - Travel/Contract
Location: New Haven, Connecticut
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)

Job Summary
- Must float between two campuses located one block apart, sharing parking and shuttle service.
- Required experience includes trauma and adult critical care ventilator experience.
- Preferred experience with Extra Corporal support and specific ventilator models (Puritan Bennett and Vyaire Avea).
- Weekend shifts required every other weekend.
- No on-call required.
- Open to accommodating block schedules.
- Charting system: Epic.
- Facility type: Short Term Acute Care Level I Trauma Center with 1,567 staffed beds.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Respiratory Therapist license in Connecticut
- Respiratory Therapist with a minimum of 2 years of experience
- Respiratory Therapist experience within the last year
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Experience working with adult patients
- Experience working with Level I Trauma patients
Skills & Experience
- Trauma experience required.
- Adult critical care ventilator experience required.
- Preferred experience with Puritan Bennett and Vyaire Avea ventilators.
- Preferred Extra Corporal experience.
Schedule
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend.
- No on-call duties.
- Block scheduling is accommodated.
Compliance & Background Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check required within 12 months of start, updated annually.
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start.
- Education verification and foreign equivalency evaluation (if applicable).
- Drug screening: 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start.
- Physical exam within 12 months of start.
- Fit test within 12 months of start, updated annually.
- Immunizations and health documents required:
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray (if history positive)
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (highly preferred for certain specialties)
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) vaccination or titers
- Hepatitis B vaccination or declination
- Varicella vaccination or titer
- Seasonal flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption (required during flu season)
- COVID vaccination preferred
Additional Training & Competencies
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required within 12 months of start.
- Color blind testing required for all candidates starting on or after 8/2/2024.
- Various facility-specific training modules and attestations required, including but not limited to:
- Stroke education (for RNs, not applicable here)
- CLABSI prevention
- Preventing pressure injury
- Language services training
- CAUTI education
- Patient transportation with oxygen education
- Suicide risk and environmental assessment training
- Pyxis ES MedStation modules
- Baxter pump interoperability training
- Patient bedside rounding (not applicable for this role)
- Ventricular assist device awareness (not applicable for this role)
- Blood administration module (not applicable for this role)
- New employee orientation
- 21st Century Cures Act module (required for RRT)
- ED handbook (not applicable for this role)
- eCart training (not applicable for this role)
- Chaperone policy training (applicable for RNs and Allied)
Notes
- Floating between two campuses requires flexibility and ability to navigate between sites.
- Epic charting experience is beneficial.
- This is a Level I Trauma Center, so experience in high-acuity settings is essential.
- Weekend coverage every other weekend is mandatory.
- No on-call responsibilities.
- Block scheduling is available to accommodate personal needs.
This position is ideal for respiratory therapists with at least 2 years of trauma and adult critical care ventilator experience looking for a travel contract in a high-acuity, Level I Trauma Center environment.
