Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (MS/Telemetry)

Location: Lafayette, Indiana
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Work primarily with medical-surgical patients including COPD exacerbation, pneumonia, COVID-19, chest pain, small bowel obstruction, etc.
  • Small surgical caseload (1-3 post-surgical cases/day) including gastric sleeve, gastric bypass, colectomy, mastectomy, appendectomy, cholecystectomy.
  • Shift requirement: Every other weekend required
  • Unit nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:6
  • Telemetry and IV start skills required
  • First-time travelers accepted
  • Locals not accepted
  • Note: Indiana RNs will not be allowed to work at these facilities after 11/30/24 except for Periop/OR RN’s, Allied, and Ambulatory RN travelers (Periop includes ENDO, IR RN, PACU, Cath Lab RN, SDS)

Required Certifications

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or RQI accepted
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or RQI accepted

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Indiana
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Minimum 1 year of recent medical-surgical and telemetry nursing experience within the last year
  • Telemetry experience
  • IV start skills
  • ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

  • Valid Driver’s License or Passport (clear copy)
  • Background checks including:
    • 7 years residence/work history verification
    • SSN Trace, County Criminal, Statewide, National Sex Offender, FACIS Level III
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
  • Transcript/Diploma (official, clear copy)
  • Education verification (may be pending at start)
  • State license verification within 30 days of start
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start
  • Fit mask test within 12 months of start (specific approved respirators required)
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start
  • Immunizations and titers:
    • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted
    • Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted
    • Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination required
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap preferred but not required
    • Flu vaccination/documentation required for flu season (9/30 - 3/31); no declinations accepted except approved medical/religious exemptions
  • TB testing: Negative TB test (PPD, QuantiFERON-TB Gold, or T-SPOT) within 1 year of start; if positive, chest x-ray and documentation required
  • Competency exams: Medication test/pharmacology and unit competency exam required
  • Color blind testing (Ishihara or equivalent) required
  • References: Minimum 2 references from recent employment verified within 2 years; must be from charge, manager, supervisor, or above
  • Employment application current with explanation of any gaps over 30 days
  • Skills checklist within 12 months and annually updated
  • Facility-specific compliance and orientation documents must be completed prior to start

Additional Notes

  • IU Health will not allow Indiana RN licenses to work at their facilities after 11/30/24 except for Periop/OR, Allied, and Ambulatory RN travelers.
  • On-site fit testing is limited and must be approved; PAPR use requires prior approval except at certain campuses.
  • First-time travelers are accepted for this assignment.
  • Every other weekend shift required.
