Job Description

Seeking a Registered Nurse for the Emergency Room (ER) on a travel/contract basis.


Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Oklahoma
  • Minimum of 1 year of Emergency Department (ED) experience, with recent ED experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC)
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification

Certifications (Must be current upon submission)

  • BLS (Basic Life Support): Required for all positions (AHA or ARC).
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support): Required for ER and other critical care units (AHA or ARC).
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support): Required if working with pediatric patients in ER.
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program): Required if applicable to unit.
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course): Required for Trauma ER.
  • NIH Stroke Certification: Required for ER and other specified units; must be updated annually.
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute): Required if assigned to Behavioral Health Unit.
  • ESI (Emergency Severity Index) Certification: Required for ER candidates prior to start (valid for 3 years).

Competencies and Exams

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam: Must score 100%, updated annually.
  • Competency Exam: Unit-specific, must score 80% or higher in every sub-section, updated annually.
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam: Required for ER and other units, must score 90% or higher, updated annually.
  • Core Part I, II, III Exams: Must score 80% or higher in every sub-section, updated annually.
  • Conscious Sedation Competency Exam: Required for applicable RNs in ER and other units, updated annually.
  • Behavioral Competency Exam: For behavioral health facilities, performed on-site.

Background and Verification Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check within 30 days of start, updated annually.
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and OFAC sanctions list checks required within 30 days of start, updated monthly.
  • Education verification with transcript/diploma required.
  • NURSYS license verification within 30 days prior to start.
  • Work history verification for the past 10 years, including international positions.
  • Two references required from former direct supervisors (one within 1 year, one within 3 years).
  • Current and updated resume covering last 7 years of employment with explanations for gaps over 30 days.

Health and Safety Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by a licensed provider, confirming good health and ability to perform job duties.
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 12 months of start.
  • Required immunizations or proof of immunity:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (vaccination series or positive titer)
    • Varicella (vaccination, titer, or history)
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (Tdap mandatory for ER and certain units)
    • Hepatitis A (required for pediatric/PICU positions)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination required annually (or approved medical/religious exemption).
  • Drug testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen including marijuana (required within 30 days prior to start, updated annually).
  • COVID vaccination strongly preferred; declinations accepted with agency form.
  • Fit mask testing completed onsite on first day.

Facility Specific Requirements

  • Completion of Patient Care Orientation Class (Skills).
  • EPIC training required if no EPIC experience within 6 months.
  • N95 Mask Fit Testing completed onsite prior to start.
  • Completion of HealthStream modules onsite after clearance.
  • Completion of various policy acknowledgments and agreements prior to start (e.g., Code of Ethical Business Conduct, Drug and Alcohol-Free Workplace Policy, Oklahoma Offender Registration Act, etc.).
  • Fingerprinting and Oklahoma Screen clearance required prior to start.
  • Vehicle information documentation required before clearance.

Summary

This is a travel contract RN position in the ER requiring current RN licensure, multiple certifications (BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC, NIH Stroke, ESI), competency exams, thorough background checks, health screenings, and compliance with facility-specific onboarding and training requirements. Prior travel experience is not explicitly required. The contract length is approximately 13 weeks.
